Haters gonna hate but this is $750k for a bottom-6 player so who cares.

He's always under rated imo. Besides, regardless of what you think of his play in recent years, he was great this preseason. Definitely worth a flier

Nice. He's played well during his PTO. Very slow, but smart and knows his role and plays within his limitations. Still wished we'd kept Jonah Gadjovich instead, but atleast Benning didn't overpay this time.

GJ!

Hard to over pay a player on a PTO, but if there was ever a GM to do it it would be Benning. Lose a 23yr old power forward who has worked hard every off season in Gadjovich to sign this guy instead...just great judgement by a team run by idiots.

Canucks won't do shit until they dump their AHL coaching staff and itchy trigger finger GM

My assessment after watching him a couple years in Edmonton:

- Smart player. Won’t hurt your team.
- Stone hands. An extreme lack of execution at times, not just scoring but completing seemingly routine passes.
- Can snipe if and only if he is on a hot streak. Very streaky player. But that hot streak can get piping hot. It just barely happens.
- Is slow for the most part but every now and then he’ll have a shift or a game where he looks like a rocket on skates and you wonder where the hell that was the other 81 games.
- A deep thinker and a good interviewee. Really puts some thought and effort into answering questions.
- Overall assessment: Get off my team, but hopes he does well.

Good for Chiasson. Good depth signing. He’s big, and does the little things well. He knows where to go on the ice, so he gets lots of chances and leaves you wanting more but if you just remind yourself he’s a 4th liner you’ll like him. Coaches seem to love the guy and overplay him, but that’s hardy the players fault.

Waste of 750k
Honestly I dont mind Chiasson, not sure why people are ragging on him. He is effective on PP as he screens the goalie well and bangs in loose pucks. Canucks didnt have a guy like this who stands in front of the net in PP effectively. He was the guy who played 1st PP unit on the Oilers which had the best PP in the league. So he was part of a very effective PP and he knows his role well. I feel Canucks PP will improve a lot once Boeser is back.

Yes wasn't too happy with it to start but like he said in his interview he's been betting on himself for most his career and now has 500 games.

A 4th liner that can play up when a injury happens that makes good decisions with the puck and plays his role and position well and is a big body for 750k is just fine. Anytime a player is paid under the cap relief to go to the minors it's not a bad contract. The only issue may be losing a roster player (MacEwen)

Miller, Hughes & Green seem to like what he can bring to the PP.

Overall hasn't been that impressive, but the one thing I've liked is his strength in puck battles down low.

1 year at league minimum is perfectly fine. If he can be a 'PP specialist' in the net-front spot then thats adding something to the team. Might aswell give it a shot.

You can tell who never played the game or who don't really understand it that much. Some people have trashed Chiasson for years but he's a solid bottom-6 forward. He's not great by any means but as long as he's not making too much money, he won't hurt you but instead giving you some reliable depth and versatility. If your coach plays him "too high in the lineup", it's most likely because your top-6 is incomplete or too soft. You need some muscle in the corners and in front of the net.

Also, you don't put 101 goals 202 points in 507 GP in just 13:51 TOI/GP if you're trash
