Good point. Top end players coming from the CHL is hard to argue.

Your point about good players being cut from NTDP is very apparent in the birth years I follow (2000 and 2001). There are definitely legitimate top players on the NTDP. Turcotte being my favorite forward.

The problem is the selection of that team is so politically and "good ol' boy" club motivated it makes that entire program laughable. Many great players get cut or overlooked for a player that has a family NHL, Olympic, or USA Hockey pedigree. When you actually look at the players and their connections it becomes very obvious.

Check out what I wrote about some of the incoming players in the 2001 birth year in the NTDP Off Season thread. See if there is anything different you like about their games. The point about the political aspect has validity to it, but there's politics in everything. Some of those players though with NHL ties are pretty darn good, others haven't panned out as such. But there will always be people pissed for not making that team when you have such a deeper talent pool to choose from now. I still have a lot of respect for the program though.

Bloomington Thunder apparently going to rebrand themselves to the Central Illinois Flying Aces. Seems kind of dumb, but at this level only really care if they have a cool logo and jersey.

Actually not too bad of a look for the Aces.

As a Bloomington-Normal resident, I'll get a hat or a shirt.

Who are the top prospects in the USHL this 2017-18 season to keep an eye on?
  • Bode Wilde (USNTDP) - D-man who is big (6’2″ 194 lbs) and can skate well.
  • Oliver Wahlström (USNTDP) - Centerman reported to be a good stickhandler & passer.
  • Joel Farabee (USNTDP) - Left winger with very good speed & able to put up points.
  • Jáchym Kondelík (Muskegon) - Forward who skated in the shadow of Top 3 prospect Andrei Svechnikov last season. 2017-18 could be his chance to shine.
  • Blake McLaughlin (Chicago) - 17 year-old centerman just entering Juniors. Had 2 goals & an assist in 4 games for USA U18 at last month's Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He has two years to grow & sharpen his skills before his University of MN commitment begins.

With Bloomington/Central IL fading to black, I lost track of the Clark Cup proceedings this year. In the Final match-up, Sioux Falls took the first two at home by identical 3-2 scores (Game 2 in double OT). Series now moves to Chicagoland on Friday and maybe Saturday night. The Steel are bringing in the Blackhawks' Jim Cornelison for Game 3's national anthem rendition, to fire up the crowd and hopefully fire up the home team.
