By beating Sweden and Slovakia.

If they lose to Sweden in regulation or even OT they are pretty much done.

well

the US can only get 7 points in total now, by winning the next two games. (3 +3 = 6 plus the 1 point they have now)

Germany has seven points if they get another point Germany is through.

the US has to pretty much Beat Sweden if they want thier future in thier own hands.

Germany has seven points if they get another point Germany is through.

Germany has 5 points, not 7.

If Germany gets 0 points, the US needs 5 of 6 (W + OTW)

If Germany gets 1, the US needs to win both in regulation.

If Germany gets 2, the US is eliminated.

If the US loses either game, they are eliminated.

Edit: Actually, the US can still get in if both they and Germany beat Sweden.

the u.s. didnt look too bad against canada at the start of the game, but they dont play a team game like canada does, they are a bunch of individuals. if they could play together they will go through. if they dont pull their heads out of their ***** then they will most likely go to the relegation round.

but having said that

GO CANADA GO!

If Sweden beats Germany and US beats Slovakia which is "what should happen" it will come to the US having to beat Sweden to move on to the knockout stage

So now that we know that the USA and Sweden both won today, its down to the States needing a win (regulation or OT...doesn't matter) vs Sweden to get through. The only positive for America is that Sweden can't win their pool, so perhaps their motivation will be a little less then peaked.

If it goes to OT they will need to win that or a shootout.....a loss of any kind puts the Germans in the medal round.

But even if they don't make the medal round they are not automatically relegated.......they'd go into a 4 teams round robin format with the other non qualifying teams. The worst 2 of those 4 will be relegated for 2007-2008.

So far we know that Belarus and Slovakia will be in the round robin. The other 2 teams will be one of The Czechs or the Swiss and one of the Americans or the Germans.

Keep in mind the czech rep can not be relegated.
