the twisted irony in all of this is

1) the union is fighting for a free market system
and
2) the capitalist corporate barons are fighting for regulation

isnt that odd ..

The owners are fighting for communistic regulations at that. It is quite odd.

which only proves there is no way the owners are all on the same page - i can see bettman begging the big boys to give him another chance - " we owe it to our new partners " - they took the expansion cash now they have to suck it up - for a while anyway!

Bettman doesn't need to beg the big boys for anything. The few 'big boys' that there are all have the same number of votes as all the small market teams.

he would be a fool to pay lip service to the guys making good profits - he's had to con them to go along with this - ie gag order -

Yep, I think you can tell who's really strong for a cap and who's not. There's alot of owners who have been silent.

All owner's are silent that doesn't mean anything.

Until now, only two owners said something in public. Questioning the loyality of certain owners to Bettman is pure speculation and has absolutetly no basis right now.

Although that doesn't mean that all owners are 100 percent behind Bettman.

How exactly would Bettman be able to "con" the teams that are making profit?

I'm pretty sure all the owners know how to run their teams and know exactly what will happen to their businesses when they voted unanimously for a lockout. So, what could Bettman say to "con" them?

It's just kind of funny how everyone blames this on Bettman, but in order for Bettman to do something like this, the owners need to approve it, and if the owners did not like wht he was doing, they would vote to get rid of him...

Yep sure is. Im not sure what is more odd. That you think what the NHL has really resembles a free market system or that you think this situation is in any way odd.

Looks like a lot of other labor disputes to me.

How did he get that ability?

The "Owners" had to give him the rights to do that. What kind of vote would he need to get that right?

Again, how did Bettman con the owners who were making money into going into a lockout? If the teams were making money, the owners must have some idea how to do things right and make good decisions.

Of course Illitch wouldn't want to change anything, he's making money off his pizza, not the wings. As for teams that actually need to turn a profit, that's what this is all about.

Wings fans don't want anything different.. it's hard to sign free agent after free agent with a cap, isn't it?

Capitalists love regulation as long as they can control the regulators.
