I think McKenna played strongly - listened to some of the games on radio and we just had moments where we could not bury the puck. One sequence in game 3, the Stars' radio team sounded almost incredulous that the puck stayed out of the net while on PP. A few similar sequences in other games. I am only basing this off of radio.

Overall, the team is fine. We are still a young, young team and part of those trades were to make up for the loss of Merkley - he was on a PPG pace, I believe. Not sure what happened to Wood - I think a lot of it was we simply added overall depth and talent that may have pushed Wood down as his weaknesses were exposed. Maybe he doesn't fit the new system and tempo due to skating/foot speed.

Even if both Strome and Crouse make the team next year, we still have some players on that team. Steenbergen should be good to go and we do have Burke's potential. Would like to see if we can sign Anton Karlsson, but that ship may have sailed or we may be waiting out one more year. Gotta be patient, even in the AHL...

A nice upswing from last season and impressive first pro season for coach Van Ryn.

Agree with BUX7PHX, we ran into a hot goalie. All the games I listened too there were at least a dozen omg saves from the radio guys. It happens. We outshot them over the course of the 5 games pretty good, the boys just couldn't sneak one by him. and I don't know how many posts were hit as well, but it was a lot. All but 1 game was close and multiple went to OT. We were just on the wrong side of it this time.

A bit disappointed, but after having our "development " team be a trash fire for a decade or two, I'm happy with the emphasis they put on being competitive this year. Not too shabby all things considered. New team, new barn, new coach. Baby steps.

Murphy had 6 in 9, +8 (double the next best), and lead the team with 35 shots.
Capobianco had 0 points in 9 games while only mustering 8 shots. This after 30 in 49.

Could be a deployment thing but that's a pretty stark difference.

IF McKenna played well, that could explain why we lost. You can ride a hot goalie to a championship.

Capobianco is in his first year in the AHL and it isn't like he was able to get a ton of playoff experience in the OHL. He just happened to be a very good player on a very bad Sudbury team. I think we have a steal in this kid as a 5/6, he just hasn't been a part of playoff hockey and didn't contribute on the score sheet. Probably played fine overall. Playoffs are a completely different animal.

The additions to the AHL team at the trade deadline probably added another year to our average roster age. :biglaugh:We had a good regular season, but were our expectations that significantly high to start the year? Or are we a little disappointed b/c the regular season raised our expectations just enough to where nothing less than being in the Final Four is acceptable?

Again, we are SUPER young. Even relative to the Stars team. They have more playoff experience at the pro level, where we are still learning how to be pros.

Also, we were 3-1 against the Stars in the regular season, but....

McKenna was only playing in one of those games (not the lone Stars' win). The other games were played by a rookie - Landon Bow. Maybe if we had faced McKenna in the regular season, the record is less deceiving :dunno:

In his 31 thoughts column, Friedman mentions that teams are looking to Van Ryn for possible NHL assistant jobs.

Would hate to lose him. I'd just as soon dump one of our NHL assistants and promote Van Ryn.

We need to do what we can to keep Van Ryn.

My sister has NOT YET attended a Roadrunners game! :( Then again, she's a UofA grad, so she would more likely attend an IceCats game. I will BEG AND PLEAD for her to attend a Roadrunners game this upcoming season. (Yes, she lives in Tucson, if you cannot tell.)
