Because outside of Matt Read, who is a UFA next year, they don't have any other available trade chips to bring in a top defenseman.

Couts is a 3rd line C on Philly who has 2nd line C upside.

What confuses me is why this guy is touted as the next coming of Forsberg when at best he looks like a Patrik Berglund.

Voracek, 2013 1st, Schenn, Simmonds etc...

Who compared him to Forsberg or Berglund? He's swedish now?

Is anyone else as confused as to why people continue to suggest that Couturier is available out of Philly as I am?

Philly is in the same boat as us, they have excess in areas that don't win you championships. They have Briere, Giroux, Schenn, and Talbot who are better offensive minded centers.

Coutourier and Schenn both struggled when they have been moved to wing.

Briere has a NMC, Giroux is the franchise, Schenn has more upside, Talbot had the best plus minus of the forwards. Where does Coutourier fit?

Briere is gone.

Rumor has it Talbot was being shopped.

So you are left with Giroux, Schenn and Couturier. Can't see why having Couturier as a shutdown center isn't an option. That's how he was used this year and he wasn't all that bad.
