I think the worst things he's done lately are the sexual assaults.

He was never charged with anything so it’s hard to accuse him of that. I personally tend to believe where there is smoke there is fire, but I also know that pro athletes can be targets. Patrick Kane for example, was accused of rape and his accuser was proven to be straight up lying. For that reason, I’m not going to hold those accusations over Evander because nothing was ever proven. I know that Kane is well liked by teammates and I also know that he does lots charitable for kids in the Buffalo area. I do know that he’s had a troubled history, but I also know that humans can use adversity to overcome their shortcomings and become better people. If I was still the same person I was in my early 20’s, I would not have a wife, my child, my job or my home.

I honestly think we could take a run at Erik Karlsson. Why not? He's a much more reliable puck-moving, power play specialist than anything we have. Gio and Hamilton are locks, everyone else on the back end is available.

I'd package: Brodie, Ferland and a couple of first round draft picks. Karlsson is only 26 I believe. We're in the opposite conference, why shouldn't we be a viable landing spot? Sure there's the contract. I think with some salary coming off our books and dumping some back we could do it.

Because we likely can't afford the package he would command, or and as you allude the contract will be killer.

I'd love Karlsson, I just don't see the fit.

And not that it matters, but just fyi he's 27 and going to be 28 on May 31st.

I really think we could do it.

Stajan is off the books after this year. That's a 3.125 mill cap hit.

TJ Brodie would be 4.65 million cap hit off the books.

Michael Ferland would be 1.75 million cap hit off the books.

That's about 9.5 million. We need to just free up about another 2.5 million. And the cap is going up to between 78 million and 82 million. Calgary should still have 5 - 8 million of cap room. I know I'm probably missing some deets, but I think we should take a run.

I'm more worried about when we have to sign Tkachuk, Bennett and potentially Smith/new goalie the following season.

I think I'm most worried about a new arena lol.

But just talking with a guy here at work, and he's thinking EK will be seeking 7 years, which I think is risky. He also doesn't think he'll command the max, but more like 8-10 million. I'd pay him 10 per 5, would be difficult to fathom for 7. Agreeing to that'd leave about 10 million for Chucky, Bennett and Smith. I think Chuck will be between around 5 per, maybe a 5 or 6 year contract like Mony and Johnny but less.

Benny . . . He's got to start putting up consistent numbers otherwise he'll be 2ish still.

Yeah, I guess there will always be number crunching. I think as a team we're not in a bad spot though.

Brodie, Ferland and some picks/prospects aren't close to getting it done.

They are asking for point and Sergachev from TB.

We aren't getting him for pennies on the dollar.

Did you see that on Twitter?

No I think it was Pierre Lebrun that said it on TSN Overdrive. Said that right now (Friday afternoon) they were asking for both but thought that at minimum at least one of them would need to be in the deal.

My guess would be Point, Koekkoek, and a 1st.

I've been through many of these situations where you can't afford a player anymore (the 90s where we lost most of our team and all of our top end talent). This comes down to money and not willing to shell up for 2-3 million (per year) to where EK needs to get to for it to make sense to him.

Thus: Brodie is a top 6 D-man (regarded as such league wide still) at 4.3 million. He's not as good of a EK but he's the same type of player. Ferland is a young guy who's already at 20 goals through 62 games, has upside and is a solid guy at a value price of just under 2 million. And then first round draft picks. Maybe another warm body.

Bottom line is Ottawa is going to get screwed in the short term and may as well get used to that being the outcome. A lot of trades being bandied about don't make sense unless you realize that you're not going to get another EK unless by sheer luck through a first round draft pick turning into a lottery win. Eventually the return dissipates into nothingness. As said we were Ottawa in the 90s, but we haven't been the team without money for 15 years or more now.

Duthie keeps mentioning left wingers the Flames might be looking at. Everyone else, they need right wing help.

Watching TSN. O-Dog is literally a TSN Leafs HF board user.
Talking about the Flames, he's ****ting on Frolik as your 2 RW. Mike Jonhson is like uhhhh.

I mean Frolik on that line is more of a chemistry thing. Realistically he’s probably a third liner but it’s a sum of the parts deal with the 3M line so ideally he stays there and we get a scoring threat for the 3rd line

Unrated note I love Sutter but Jesus Christ he’s a dial tone. Puts me to sleep no matter what he says

Deadline day's been a drag as far as I can remember. Usually all the good trades happen in days the leading up to it. Doesn't help that it's a buyers market either this year

Frolik's been a second line winger for the majority of his career.
40-45 points in today's NHL is second line production really.

Actually kind of happy I'm working today and not mindlessly switching between TSN and Sportnet , although constantly refreshing Twitter isn't much different, at least I can pretend to be productive

Tatar would be an amazing addition to the Flames.

Yes, his cap hit ($5.3M) might be a tad high but I personally have no problem with it. Also really like the fact he has 3 years remaining after this season. Just turned 27.

His underlying #'s are very excellent and his acquisition cost most likely wouldn't be as high as a guy like Pacioretty and/or Hoffman (despite being at worst half a level below them and having 2 extra years on his contract than Pacioretty and 1 more than Hoffman).

Man I would LOVE him on the team
