Toronto Maple Leafs (5-1-0) vs Detroit Red Wings (4-2-0)

Radio: TSN1050

The Maple Leafs look to continue their hot start to the season with another win after beating the Capitals 2-0 yesterday night. Andersen played yesterday so it's possible Curtis McElhinney gets the start tonight, his 1st of the season. The Red Wings are off to a solid 4-2-0 start to the year after missing the playoffs last season.

Maple Leafs Lineup:

Forwards:
Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
van Riemsdyk - Bozak - Brown
Marleau - Kadri - Komarov
Martin - Fehr* - Marner

Defence:
Rielly - Hainsey
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Borgman* - Carrick

Goalies:
McElhinney*
Andersen

Scratches:
Moore
Rosen
Leivo

*Fehr and Borgman have been rotating in and out of the lineup with Moore and Rosen each game this year, will likely see that trend continue tonight as Moore and Rosen played yesterday
*Andersen started yesterday night, will likely see McElhinney in tonight

Red Wings Lineup*:

Forwards:
Mantha - Zetterberg - Nyquist
Tatar - Larkin - Abdelkader
Frk - Nielsen - Helm
Sheahan - Glendening - Witkowski

Defence:
Kronwall - Green
Ericsson - Daley
Ouellet - Jensen

Goalies:
Howard
Mrazek

*Red Wings lineup is from their last GDT, could be changes

Zetterberg/Matthews
While defenceman Mike Green is scoring like he’s a Capital again (nine points in six games), Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg continues to pace Detroit’s forwards at the age of 37. He and Anthony Mantha each have three goals and four assists. Leafs leader Auston Matthews, who turned 20 last month, had scored in every game heading into Tuesday’s tilt in Washington, and was named last week’s second star in part because of his two overtime goals.
NEED TO KNOW
The Red Wings are managing 29.5 shots game, fifth-worst in the NHL, and have outshot an opponent only once this season (31-26 vs. Tampa Bay). They lost that game . . . The Wings’ power play is 20th in the league (16.7 per cent) after an 0-for-6 night against the Lightning. The penalty kill is fifth (89.3 per cent).
UP NEXT
Saturday, at Ottawa.

Disappointed to see the backup tonight. Have a feeling it's going to be a long drive home.

I know it's aback to back but the season is still young and should be able to win this one as well - The key is how McBackup respond playing in his 1st game of the season

McElhinney has to start his season well tonight and prove himself as our backup. He needs to be good from the onset, and may have to keep a tired team in it at times. Then again, it is early, so hopefully they won't be too fatigued.

Here's hoping for a good game. It can't start soon enough.

The Wings, last year, were the 5th or 6th worst scoring team in the league GF/G, in part, due to a brutal PP. So far this year, their PP is not showing too much improvement.

Special Teams:

.............................PP....................PK........................TOTAL

Leafs .............28.6% ..............81.5%..................110.1

Wings.............16.7%...............89.3%..................106

Yes, it's still early and the sample is small!

I think McBackup starts off strong. Pickard is serious competition for him. Should be motivation.

I think if he makes the saves he needs to make, our offense can overwhelm this Detroit defense

Detroit is playing surprising well to start the year, so this isn't a gimme game by any means.

Could be a trap game, after last nights big win and Leafs play dropping off a little.

Won't happen, but I'd play Leivo in Martin's spot. Gives us an actual 4th line that could keep the other lines' minutes from getting too high.

Tonight would be the perfect opportunity to sub Leivo for Martin (or Marner). Playing a soft team and playing back to back.

Got platinum seats for tonight's game. Worried about Mac in net.

Might be one of those nights where we need to outscore our problems, or we are in for a long night.
