The guy hasn't gotten any better(offensively) since his freshmen year.

Suter is too low.
He's IMO heavily overrated on this board, but still he's a better prospect than Barker or Tyutin.

1- Pitkanen
2- Phaneuf
3- Johnson
4- Suter
5- Meszaros
6- Whitney
7- Tuytin
8- Barker
9- Seabrook
10- Kronwall

Yep, I'm not that sold on Kronwall.
Tyutin is playing well right now.
Seabrook has had a fast start too.
Both have the makings of a number one defenseman. Kronwall doesn't.

yessh.. I forgot about Pitkanen.
I would also like to include Eminger in there somewhere, hes playing great this year, and logging a ton of minutes.

Pitkanin played 71 games in the last NHL season, and now has 86 games of NHL experience. No matter the system, how can anyone classify him as a prospect?

again, misuse of the word wow....

Shawn Belle - Iowa Stars AHL - 11gp, 0g, 0a, 0pts

c'mon buddy, are you serious?
There's far more that goes into evaluating a defenceman's play than just stats. Keep in mind that he's a 21-year-old kid, playing at the pro level for the first time in his career. Many defencemen have an adjustment when they graduate from junior/college to pro. (Just ask Whitney).

I never said Belle's going to be a Norris Trophy candidate, just a good, top-pairing defenceman (essentially a top 50-60 defenceman in the 30-team NHL) and one of the fastest skaters in the league.

If you guys watched Belle at last year's WJC, you'd see why I'm so high on him. He showed an ability to make the smart plays (something he didn't always do in the past), while doing it at a very quick tempo. He only had one assist in six games, but to me, he was the second best defenceman in the tournament (after Phaneuf).

Kronwall will be 25 on January 12th.....I repeat, 25! There is no discounting his ability, but he is pretty far along in terms of "prospect-status". He has 4-6 years of maturity on most of these guys, so it is hard to judge where they rank in accordance to him. Still, if he is going to be on this list.....then he has to be in or near the top 5....too much talent....although I do wonder if he will be as effective as Colorado's stud, JM Liles (I am using Liles because both are small in frame.)

I love the last few things where Grebeshkov isn't in the top 15 or "18"..... Did he really fall that far he used to considered one of the top or best type of defenseman prospects.... Oh well and ya as a Kings fan hate to say it but Smid should be considered by some of you too

I don't give too much credit to HF when it comes to rankings...
Dion is the undisputed number one. Coburn, Belle, Kronwall, and Tyutin do not belong/should be lower on that list, IMO. Belle is arguably not even the best in Dallas. There is a huge dropoff after the first three.

1. Phaneuf
2. Johnson- Very underrated
3. Suter- Doesn't have that explosive potential, but is a VERY safe prospect

4. Barker- Vastly overratted...gets this position based on prior achievements
5. Meszaros-A stud!
6. Kronwall- Is injury-prone, despite all his positives.
7. Tyutin- Based on the hype. He has so much talent; why does he not use it? He isn't a punisher and isn't a dazzling offensive star. Still, hes pretty good.
8. Ryan Whitney-Stellar in the AHL. Amazing offensively. Will outshine all Defensemen on this list offensively.
9. Babchuk- He still is not very solid defensively...screams out Jeff Jillson
10.Coburn-Overrated; could be the next Carlo Colc.
11.Aj Thelen- Sick defenseman. An absolute stud.
12.Weber-Meh. not much to say. Very good all-around, but he can't touch others potential-wise IMO.
13. Ladislav Smid- I have never seen play in the Czech league, but he has gotten very good reviews.
14. Grebeshkov-What a player! Tremendous work ethic. I think he will have a home in the NHL. He hits well for his size, and can quarterback a powerplay.
15.Bourdon-Has everyone forgotten about this stud?
16. Brian Lee-not sold on him, but has great potential. And, hes in Ottawa's system.
17. Carle-homer pick, but one of the best defenseman in college hockey should get something.
18. Seabrook-Underrated defenseman doing well on a bad team
19.Nisakanen-Gut feeling.
20. Ehrhoff-Has potential, but has not done a thing to live up to it. On potential alone, he's top 15.
great list

I think Staal is very underrated. He almost made the Rangers straight out of camp and probably will next year. He's taken a huge step this year and is racking up points.

:teach: kronwall led grand rapids in scoring last yr and won the eddie shore trophy as best AHL dman.
he was also on 1st all-star team at 05 WC's. was a 1st all-star in 99 under 18's. was an all-star last 2 yrs in AHL.

Fair enough, but what does Coburn do that makes him superior to Whitney? Nothing IMO.

Would you stop your damn moaning. I would take Coburn over Whitney any day of the week. Whitney while great offensivly has made quite a few mistakes in his own end and is still 2 years older then Coburn. In two years time Coburn will be in Atlanta's top 4 and a solid player defensivly.
