Broke Gretzky's junior scoring record for rookies and fired five straight 40+ goal years, starting his sophmore season, but then suddenly he goes off the radar and into oblivion after a few more mediocre years. My question is what's the cause of this big decline? Was it Jimmy Carson syndrome where scoring was too easy and the desire to play faded because of it or something else. I'll leave it to the veterans to enlighten the younger generation.

I was going to guess injury but it seems he was traded a lot in his last two years (Vancouver, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo) and his production dropped off. In the six full years he played in Vancouver he had 4 seasons with over 70 points (86, 72, 79, & 77). In the year he was traded to Pittsburgh he had 64 points (32 points apiece). He had 3 seasons with over 40 goals and two seasons with 39 goals. So to answer your question I have no idea. Boy am I helpful.
