My post mentioned intent because you conveniently left it out of your original post. Now, let's actually have a conversation with some substance.
I do in fact think Tkachuk meant to hurt him. Have you been speared before? And please, don't bother responding with some meaningless anecdote about a toy lightsaber, answer the question directly.
It doesn't take a tremendous amount of force for someone to hurt you by spearing you in the stomach/groin with a hockey stick. I've been speared before, it isn't pleasant.
It really does seem that you're arguing just for the sake of arguing, or, you just have an affinity for dirty players and feel obligated to defend them.
Yes I've been speared before. And yes it hurts. I'll leave the jokes out of this one. You can absolutely hurt someone real bad with a stick blade. I'm not a fan of dirty players, or even Tkachuk specifically.
Where we disagree is the intent and possible results. This looked very tame to me. It looked more like Tkachuk was trying to be a jerk and annoy Martin, not trying to hurt him. I believe that because he didn't seem to hit him very hard. I don't think he used enough force to cause any harm. Martin says he didn't feel it, so it must not have had any real chance of hurting him. Martin calls Tkachuk's spear 'child's play,' says he didn't feel it
If a player really did try to hurt someone else by spearing them after a whistle (or a slew foot or what have you), then I would be happy to see them suspended.
