Nothing. Look at what's going on in the trade rumour thread right now. The Montour for Nylander thread has now created a Leaf Pack with a bloodlust. Trolling? I don't think that was the intent, but no one wants to trade and no one likes it for Toronto (all of a sudden).

The trade boards are a fun way to waste time but you still want to keep it realistic. No one wants another teams version of Ryder, Halak and a 2nd for a prime asset.

None of them is worth more in a trade than they are to us as cheap NHL level talent. at least for the moment.

all 3 are guys with very real skill and upside, and guys who can be effective defensive and/or possession player's as well.

in fact, all 3 of them may well have been good 2nd liners even last year, if they had been given a shot at it.

and that's the problem - thanks both to babcock's strict usage and komo/hyman/brown love AND due to the leafs' uncanny health, none of these guys has been given an opportunity to play in that type of role, for even a short time - which means it is a bad time to trade any of these 3 guys, because you'd be selling low on all of them.

There are two things that doom most proposals:

1) Not taking opponent team needs into account.
2) Trying to sell quantity for quality.

For example, the Manson proposal. Anaheim is still trying to compete, so they won't sell him unless they get an equivalent piece back in a position they really need. Depending on how they view Kesler long-term, that's likely a borderline elite winger they would need to get back.

The ironic thing though is most NHL trades tend to be quantity for quality in structure, while on HFboards most folks here only prefer quality for quality.

Though obviously most trade board proposals are still outlandish though

If the pieces were good it would be different but almost all the quantity for quality posts are usually for scraps.

I don’t think you need to trade Nylander or Marner to get a good defenseman but you’re likely looking at Kapanen or Johnsson plus Dermott and picks in order to get things done.

Super unpopular opinion, I think Leivo is a better player than both.

Just so happens though that Babcock hates players that get injured.
