I'm not very happy with the selection as I feel some people made the team with a helping bias from lowe and gretzky. ie. brewer, smith, doan, yzerman, Gagne all should not be on the team. Those players are not canada's best players let alone canada's best role players.

My Team Canada

1. Finesse & Scoring lineup - 1st PP Unit

Iginla - Sakic - Tanguay - * Kariya

2. Finesse & Fire Power lineup - 2nd PP Unit

Heatly, Lemieux, St. Louis - * Nash

3. Penalty Killing & Shut Down Line - PK unit 1

Maltby, Draper, Richards - * Madden

4. Crash The Net & Bang Line - PK unit 2

Thornton, Primeau, Marleau - * Bertuzzi

********************************

Defense:

Niedermayer - Pronger
Blake - Foote
Regehr - Jovo

Brewer, Redden**
********************************

Goalie
Brodeur, Belfour, Loungo

Please tell me what you think of this lineup and who you would replace if any. I really think this is the team we should of selected.

just a question, but why is it that Hatcher can play in the world cup yet Bert can't?

Bertuzzi can play, Gretzky and co. thought it was a good idea to keep a good vibe and not invite him to be on the team. the world cup and nhl are totally seperate.

I think its more of a matter of team canada that bertuzzi isn't playing. Canada exec ie. gretzky and company have decided to 1. respect the nhl suspension. 2. decided the distraction is not worth the chemisty. 3. Canada can still win without him.

In all respect. They know as well as we do, we would love to have him. I consider that a handicap for us.

Why is hatcher allowed to play. Just read what i wrote about bertuzzi and reverse it for the americans in the negative.

Are you saying that Hatcher's elbow to Lombardi is the same as the Bertuzzi hit on Steve Moore?

I hope not.

Ya but bertuzzi has a chance of not being suspended OR being suspended. Either way it is the same as Hatcher because he will be suspended from the NHL during the world cup.

Iginla - Sakic - Lemiuex
Heatly - Thorton - Bert
Smyth - Lecavlier - St. Louisss
Doan - Primueau - Richards

Blake - Jovo
Pronger - Brewer
Nedermyier - Foote
Reghier

3 goalies already named no contest

What do people think of this lineup?

Heatley-Sakic-Iginla
Kariya-Lemieux-St. Louis
Smyth-Thornton-Bertuzzi
Yzerman-Draper-Primeau
EXTRAS: Marleau, Lecavalier, Doan

Pronger-Blake
Niedermayer-Foote
Jovanovski-Redden
EXTRAS: Brewer, McCabe

Brodeur
Luongo
EXTRAS: Belfour

So in other words, the following alterations were made when you compare it to the real team (the alterations are to the right and in bold letters):

Morrow ----> Bertuzzi
Gagne ----> Kariya
Richards ----> Lecavalier
Maltby ----> Primeau
Regehr ----> McCabe

What do you all think?

Looks good for the most part, but I would keep Richards in over Lecavalier. Why? A lot of it has to do with attitude. Richards is a guy that's easy to get along with and very unselfish. Lecavalier strikes me as a selfish player who might disrupt the chemistry of the team. He needs a couple more years before he can be considered for this imo.

Regehr deserves to be in it more than McCabe as well. I wouldn't change the defense.

Why do you people want Bertuzzi to be on the team? The guy is a disgrace to the game and to the country. With Canada's depth, we can win without him.

1) Yes
2) Yes
3) No, Richards is better, more points each of the last 3 years. also bolts are 20 something -0-2 this season when he scores a goal (playoffs and season, kinda weird stat don't know what it means
4) Yes
5) No, McCabe was awful in the playoffs, Regehr is better IMO. However i do like Aucoin or Bouwmeester better than Regehr.

Ya but bertuzzi has a chance of not being suspended OR being suspended. Either way it is the same as Hatcher because he will be suspended from the NHL during the world cup.

Hatcher's suspension specifically says that he is suspended for the first 3 regular season games of the next season. It doesn't mention anything else. Hatcher won't be suspended from the NHL during the World Cup, because his suspension doesn't begin until the beginning of the regular season.
Bertuzzi's suspension says he was suspended for the regular season and the playoffs and then indefinitely suspended until Bettman decides to let him back. Bertuzzi is suspended from the NHL during the World Cup, and thus ineligible to play (at this time), unless Bettman ends his suspension before the World Cup.

Also named was defenceman Derian Hatcher of the Detroit Red Wings, who was suspended three games by the NHL last week for elbowing Calgary Flames forward Matthew Lombardi in the head during Game 6 of their second-round series. Since the Red Wings were eliminated in the same game, Hatcher will miss the first three games of the 2004-05 regular season.

But he's eligible to play in the Aug. 30-Sept. 14 World Cup, an NHL and NHL Players' Association tournament.

``The Derian Hatcher suspension was a suspension with a definite term of three regular-season games,'' NHL spokesman Gary Meagher said Thursday in Toronto. ``So it does not impact the World Cup.''

Winger Todd Bertuzzi, on the other hand, is indefinitely suspended and cannot play in the World Cup unless commissioner Gary Bettman reinstates him as an active NHL player. Canada left Bertuzzi off its roster last Saturday.

its all about chemistry. Yzerman, Draper, and Primeau IMO wouldn't make a very good checking line because they lack chemistry.

The reason Maltby, Draper, and Doan are on the squad is because last year they created a lethal line.
