Any scheduling conflicts would only appear in edge playoff cases. WNBA starts in late May and ends in early October at latest.
There we go. I forgot they play out of season.

I'll go back to just being glad they're not playing in the big arena so there might be some atmosphere.

Definitely. I heard the capacity is like 11K? That's a great size for WNBA. Much better than the 4K basement that Leonsis is trying to force on the Mystics :thumbd:

Now let's just hope Laimbeer doesn't trade Plum so the team actually has a marketable face :)

Yeah, I think they push 12K at Mandalay, perhaps more for basketball. I imagine it will still have some empty spots, but better than 18,000 or so in T-MA, Thomas and Mack, or the Grand Garden.

Orleans Arena would probably be perfect, but not owned by MGM so that's not happening.

Agreed. Nice to see another WNBA fan in here.

Another team that plays at a casino resort, the Connecticut Sun, consistently boasts some of the league’s highest attendance – though they also have a boost with the proximity to women’s basketball powerhouse UConn

Most definitely a step toward getting an NBA team in Las Vegas with MGM involved. We've got to hope the Knights get their foothold in here in the next couple of years.

ETA: Apparently they're playing at Mandalay Events Center, so no worries about T-MA scheduling.

MGM purchasing lasvegasaces.com during the Knights' naming process makes more sense now.

Having WNBA team doesn't necessarily mean NBA team is coming. Connecticut Suns exist by themselves.

Hayward broke his tibia. I still think they're the 2 seed. Draymond strained his knee.

Have no interest in the WNBA or a team moving here. If the Thomas and Mack can’t fill seats for the Rebels not sure if people are going to come out and support another non competitive team. I think some of these additions are too much and too soon.

Agreed. Raiders and Golden Knights will be fine because of their major league status.

USL and WNBA I am not sure. One might work.

UH, BK, THE Sun and the new Vegas team which was born btw, in Utah, has only been under SSE ops since '02.... the NBA no longer owns/operates franchises, and that started with the Sun, actually, that team was the Orlando Miracle, and operated by yes, the Magic, the MO changed to private owners, or a corporation, the G-League IS WHERE you're seeing more of the NBA business model of NBA Franchises operating, if not, outright owning these franchises.

most, if not all WNBA franchises were informed to not align with an NBA Group, it happens to some degree, but that model was changed.

Having a WNBA team doesn't necessarily mean we'll get an NBA team for sure. However, knowing Las Vegas and how the corporations here operate, I'd say that MGM picking up a WNBA team means they're going after an NBA team. Sure they can operate independently, but I'm sure you get a few brownie points from the NBA for picking up a struggling WNBA team and bringing them to Las Vegas.

Especially with Jackie Robinson still (apparently) pursuing his plans for the arena/resort at the old Wet n' Wild site. I sincerely doubt the NBA would let an NBA team come to Las Vegas at an arena that directly competes with MGM after MGM showed they'll support the WNBA. MGM still owns that site at Sahara and LVB and I'm sure that land as well as the All Net Arena/Wet n' Wild site fits into their long term plans for the North Strip.

I think MGM is making a shrewd move to bring the Stars here and shutting a potential competitor off the North Strip. That Arena/Resort project goes nowhere without an anchor tenant, and their goal all along was to have the NBA be that anchor.

..... the NBA no longer owns/operates franchises, ...

"Seven WNBA teams are associated with the NBA team from the same market and are known as sister teams. These teams include the Indiana Pacers and Fever, the Los Angeles Lakers and Sparks, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, the New York Knicks and Liberty, the Phoenix Suns and Mercury, the Atlanta Hawks and the Dream, and the Washington Wizards and Mystics. Of these teams, only the Dream and the Sparks are owned separately." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women's_National_Basketball_Association#Teams

/ Cubs, Lakers, Raiders, tonight, I picked up Kyle Kuzma in my fantasy league, and am really excited about everything. Is Carr ready for primetime?

/ I saw an interview with Darius Rucker where he said "She talks to angels" changed the way he listened to music and that he went home and wrote "Let her cry" that night. I thought it was cool, because the BCs are my favorite new rock group in the last 30 years.

So I've been paying attention to this Amazon HQ2 thing since they announced it.

How cool would it be to get the Amazon HQ in Las Vegas? 50,000 highly paid people, diversity in the economy, plus the space we've got downtown in Symphony Park if they were interested. Seems like it would rock for the valley.

It's a long shot, but Zappos and the Downtown Project couldn't hurt.

Somewhere in Oregon.
Would be a great boon to the local economy, and you're right...instant diversification.

I've been reading about some of the many other cities/states that want the HQ2, and the incentives they're willing to offer are astronomical...billions in incentives and tax breaks.

I'm wondering if our location relatively close to HQ1 in Seattle would be an advantage or disadvantage. Keep thinking they might look to go east in order to spread out their footprint.

There's already an Amazon "outlet" here. I do think that east of the Mississippi River may have weighted chance for selection for geographic reasons. But Vegas definitely fits the other criteria.

We've got a distribution center like most cities, but we've also got the HQ of Zappos, which is now owned by Amazon.

Zappos and Tony Hsieh are huge proponents of downtown Las Vegas' revitalization and have been investing millions over the past five years or so. Essentially everything downtown that isn't a casino and is pretty cool is a result of that.

Amazon would be huge for that.

Debating between getting a Marchessault Fanatics jersey or a blank adizero. For those that have bought either, pros and cons?

Leaning toward the Marchessault because I like the way the numbers protrude off the jersey and have texture. They don’t do that on the adizero, from what I’ve seen. I also don’t wanna spend 250 on the adizero with a name on it so I’d go for the blank.

Have you guys heard about another potential Vegas arena?

Why do they need another one? There’s like 5 already.
They've been talking about an arena at the old Wet n Wild site just south of the Sahara/SLS for years. They've broken ground a few times and apparently now have planning approval for the resort/arena. It's supposed to be a 20,000+ seat arena with a retractable roof.

However, with MGM jumping in with the WNBA, I think they're trying to shut that project down.

We can handle arenas in town, that's obvious with how many there are, but I think that one's going to need an anchor like the NBA or the Knights to make it work.

The new arena would be at the opposite end of the strip from the T&M. I doubt UNLV fans/students and admin would be in favor of moving off campus. Even if the NBA came to town a separate arena is not needed and just silly.
