The Jan 23rd Game wouldn't meet the 30 minute criteria if such a clause does indeed exist

1st round pick (top-10)
2nd round pick (32-40)
2nd round pick (37-45)
2nd round pick (50-62)
2nd round pick (50-62)
3rd round pick (63-71)
4th round pick (93-101)
4th round pick (110-124)
5th round pick (125-133)

The LA conditional 4th is actually Montreal's own pick so it would be much earlier

From Cap Friendly:
*Condition- If the Kings qualify for the playoffs, the Canadiens will receive their own 2018 4th round pick back which was part of the Dwight King trade.

I don’t care if it is a waste of time, but I want us to get those draft pick upgrades. This will be a big prospect building year, unless we spend draft picks on existing players ... and then it is still building.

4th are better than 5ths.

In this year's case.....a 4th is a 3rd. Every year since Timmins came on board in 2003, there is a NHL'er somewhere around where we would pick. High 4th is important.

after or before tonight?

Montoya needs to play seven games
The Canadiens will receive the fourth-round selection only if Montoya plays seven games for the Oilers, otherwise it’s a fifth-round pick. Montoya must register at least 30 minutes of playing time for a game to count toward that total

He's played 6 games so far, of which one did not meet the 30 min condition. Tonight should count as the 6th game.

Note: The 30 minute condition is not listed on Cap Friendly so there's been some debate if all six previous games might count

Tonight, we should find out if the 30-minute condition is real or not. Because if it exists, this is Game 6 of 7 (if he plays 30 minutes). If it isn't real, then this will be Game 7 of 7.

Does it even matter? I highly doubt Cam Talbot will start the last 12 games in a row for the Oilers in a lost season.

The way the Oil like to tank, they will run with whoever improves the odds of drafting higher.

So, if the 30 minute rule is in effect, Montoya has 1 game to go to meet the conditions of the trade. Otherwise, conditions have been met, but hopefully he gets another game of 30+ minutes to be sure.

As of today, LAK is in 3rd in the Pacific, with a game in hand on Anaheim, both with 82 points. They are not a lock by any means though as COL, in the 2nd WC spot, has a game in hand on LAK and tied in points. DAL, who is in the 1st WC spot, has played one more game than LAK and have 83 points.

Oilers have two more back-to-backs left in the season, one of which is this weekend (FLA & TB) and the other is next weekend (LA & ANA).

Fair to believe Montoya will play at least one of those 4 games.
