Considering half of our PK has left this season, who do people see as being the new units?

Couturier is an obvious choice, as is Simmonds from his play last year. But outside of that it looks like it's up for grabs.

Pending the draft

Couturier-Simmonds
Filppula-Read
Laughton-Raffl
Giroux for the big draws on his strong side

Appleyard can confirm, but I think Lindblom can also PK.

PEB gone is a plus considering Hakstol would have had him taking draws at his 40% pk rate.

Now if only MacDonald were to be removed we'd be in good shape. I guess Manning too.

Leier has no chance to make the team

He definitely does. It would just take one of these other guys to miss out due to injury or a trade, and for the waiver exempt Vecchione to start in the AHL.

Giroux ~ 8.275
Voracek ~ 8.25
Schenn ~ 5.125
Filppula ~ 5
Couturier ~ 4.33
Simmonds ~ 3.975

Read ~ 3.625
Raffl ~ 2.35
Weise ~ 2.35
Weal ~ UFA

Lindblom ~ 0.925
Nico/Nolan ~ 0.925
Konecny ~ 0.894
Laughton ~ RFA
Vecchione ~ RFA
Leier ~ RFA

Read-Raffl-Weise/Vecchione/Laughton

The Flyers obviously still think Laughton has a future with the club since they protected him. And this is without being able to resign Weal who I think is on the team in September, and then he'd have to jump over Vecchione, and Laughton as well as one of Weise or Read. AND he'd have to be better than everyone else competing for those spots as well.

I just hope we abandon the terrible set-up we had last year.

lappy is still here so I wouldn't count on it. not having the wonder twins as the number one unit should improve the pk 5 percentage points alone though. i really didnt understand keeping lappy and firing mullen when the pk has been awful during his tenure while pp has been top 10 year in and out. I think firing Mullen was a good move as his system was stale and never made adjustments, I just don't get keeping lappy when the pk suffers from the same issue. really hope this is the year lappy adjusts things or the same issues that plagued the pk last year will happen this year. simply having the top pkers not playing like chickens with their heads cut off should make a fairly big difference though.

Well, you're not as confused as he is.

If they sign Weal, at least one of Read/Raffl/Weise has to get moved.

That's not true. They could start Vecchione in the AHL, and trade or waive Leier and be at 14 forwards. And that's assuming no one gets hurt.
