Hard game to watch, for such a skilled team we have been playing some really boring hockey.

Where’s the creativity? I know most rushes die as soon as the puck touches the respective “line plug” as I call them, (Hyman, Leo, Bozak) but even the skill guys are not doing much creative work out there.

The Babcock line combos are comical and to see Leo on the PP or Hyman out there with Matthews on the 3on3 ... :help:

We have only 2 guys that drive offense and that's Matthews and Willie, everyone else needs to grind out goals, imo

You know who was good tonight?

Travis Hamonic was good. The Leafs should have paid up and made that trade with JVR + 1st round draft choice.
Umm no
He has been terrible this season so far. Its a good thing we didnt make that move.

How did we win that game?

We looked bad. Considering we had 3 days of solid rest. Nothing looked good

Zaitsev and Gardiner at times looked too soft. That give away by Zaitsev on PP, dude, what are you thinking?

Then Martin had to take a penalty because one of them had missed their assignment. Game in, game out, that pair that pair has been bad

That was some horrible display of defending.

On the plus side, we won a game we didn't deserve to win; Andersen has been amazing since November. On the negative side, that was the worst game I've seen Matthews play as a Leaf. Totally invisible, spectator. They need to shake up that top line and fast. Something tells me that his injury must still be niggling, though -- he just doesn't look like the same player.

Agreed.
He's not nearly as good as the reputation.
That JVR + 1st (or whatever the rumour was) would have been a massive overpayment.
Hainsey is a better player imo.
Tonight had the worst CF% of any flame.

Defense doesn't want to rush the puck for some reason so it resorts to stupid stretch passes. Add in the fact that 1/2 the games are on ACC ice, those stretch passes aren't going to sit on the recipient's stick most of the time anyways. Part of the blame goes to the forwards but it's ridiculousness can be highlighted by how Gardiner handles his breakouts. For a guy that can skate as well as he can, he sure does standby idly, waiting for the perfect opening (only to miss the pass or have the pass tip).

I am disappointed in Jake's play this year, to say the least. But maybe that's just the player he is. I don't know what's going on in his head some of the time. After the Washington series, he's keen on skating 10-to-2 trying to emulate Carlson's PP zone entries....not too effectively but still. Maybe Jake likes flash more than substance.

Is there anyone else here who was surprise to see Matt Stajan still playing for the Flames? For the past 3 years or so, whenever I watched a Leafs vs Flames game, I always get surprised when I see this guy still hanging on in the NHL.

Worst goalie in the league every October
Top 5 after that

As long as he plays like this in the playoffs, who cares how he plays in the regular season. Babcock needs to make sure he is rested for April and May, and don't care if that means more losses with our back ups.

Wait a second, now we are at the point where apparently the mental stink of this team is dragging down Matthews? Sorry but if thats the case, then Matthews is the problem.

Good thing is though no mental stink is dragging down Matthews. He is still trying to get back to usual form which will take some time.

2 points boy it feels good to beat a canadian team twice in the same week

Thought the team didn't have it tonight. They defended well at least on the 2nd and 3rd chances.

All hail Freddy. And put Nylander back with Matthews, for the love of god.

The mental stink around here are some of the posters' mentality...they are like the poison in the food that Bozak ate...LOL. This game is eerily the opposite of the Vancouver game we lost. Of course Calgary's gonna play us tough this game...they had it circled since they lost to us last Thursday and game planned and executed well this game...so Andy saved our bacon, which is awesome. I love it when we win! 18-10-1 and people calling for Babcock's head...good grief...is it time to trade Matthews yet who's in a bit of a goal slump? Maybe we trade him for Duchene from Ottawa.

I feel like the defencemen has been told by the coaches not to skate the puck up and instead throw these stretch passes instead. It makes no sense how Gardiner goes from complete Playoff domination to sit back throwing hail marys across the ice. He was a zone entry beast with his skating and now just refuses to enter the zone or skate the puck up.

Are you KIDDING ME!?!!

I do the closing shift at my work. So I DVR the game and have gone to great lengths to avoid spoilers so I can enjoy the game when I get home at 11:10pm

I always set the game to record for 30 minutes longer than scheduled for regular season games because who knows right?

Really enjoying the game tonight, there's 35 seconds left in OT, J.Hockey just took down Bozak Leafs are going 4 on 3....

Recording ends and now I'm watching Fox news going wtf... (that's my dads favourite channel, not me)

Open up score app see we won (yay of course) and Matthews and Nylander scored in the shootout.

Sorry really happy we won but I was robbed of that ending, must have been glorious.

I guess I blame myself and will now have to record for an hour past schedule.

Flames played an incredible game but we were as good as we needed to be, with some serious help from Andersen. Damn is Rielly ever good this year!

Wow 2 more points in the bank when we were lucky to have 1.

Good game really, Flames fans must be bewildered by that one.

Actually the Flames were really good tonight. Leafs were fine, the other team brought their A game and they are a better defensive team.

Leafs hung in there and played pretty well IMO, they don't win this game without Andersen obviously, but they weren't bad at all, pretty much played a 60 minute game against a team that was just better tonight and wasn't allowing the Leafs to play their strengths for more than a couple minutes all night.

I have no problems with this win, and you know your teams is starting to become something when you win games you shouldn't because you're just that damn good whether its your goalie or your timely offense or just a lucky bonus win when you're already winning all the time.
