I really dont know what to think anymore about the IIHF. The championships are being played on ice that starts melting literally 10 minutes after the start of the games. The freezing machinery (or whatever it is called) is not working properly so they installed the one working in the training arena. But that does not work properly too!! The ice keeps melting and is covered by water so the puck is hard to control. What I dont understand is A) Why did not the IIHF demand a new arena to be built just like it was last year in the czech rep. and in Russia in 2000! B) Why havent the Austrians been more prepared?! How could this be happening on the most important international event of the year? :amazed: :shakehead Any comments anyone? What do you think?

"Ice freezing machines" are not really all that complicated...they could get things tuned up. At the same time....its no different in Austria than anywhere else...summer temps. outside make for tough icemaking conditions inside.

it's 20 - 25 degree here when the sun shines.

in innsbruck the ice is ok, they aren't able to cool down the stadthalle in vienna. it's a shame :help:

Apparently both arenas used in this tournament are very old. Wiener Stadthalle is built in 1957 and Olympiahalle Innsbruck in 1963.

Stadthalle

Olympiahalle Innsbruck

Nope, there has been an extensive conversion and remodeling of the Olympiahalle Innsbruck in 2003-2004.

But the Stadthalle is really old and outdated. For some reasons they are not able to build a new arena (the population of Vienna is more than 1.500.000).

It doesn't matter that we had up to 30° Celsius, the last few days (thank god it dropped now to 15° C), it's a crying shame that we are unable to organize this event properly.

The responsible politicians are right now discussing about building a new arena in vienna... :loony: :banghead:
