The Good -

- Guys not named Jack scored!
- Guys not on Jack's line scored!
- Jack tanking defensive responsibilities like a boss.
- Bailey converts early and it lifts the whole team.
- Johnson was very good.
- Girgensons carried his line early, Larsson carried his line and the 4th line late. Good footsoldier work.
- Full props to Risto for elevating the physical part of his game when the Ducks were making a second period push.

The Bad -

- Kane with hit for the cycle, err four penalties.
- ROR continues to struggle. Laying that SHGA on his bumble and one of Kane's penalties too.
- Hey look, another shorthanded goal against! Is this population directly impacted by Pominville's return, even if he isn't on the point any longer?

The Ugly -

- Josefson gets boarded and no call. Wonderful.

Eichel was tremendous defensively today.

He was studly in his own zone tonight and while he was held of the scoresheet, it didn't seem to impact his line's ability to get up the ice and generate shots.

Really liked ROR and Reinhart in the third period. Keep them together for a bit to see if they can work each other out of the slump. I'd put Bailey on that line.

Johnson is about as textbook perfect as a goalie gets in this game.

G:

Williamsville's Finest!
Johnson very good, calming influence back there.
Defensive improvement all around. Scandella stood out.

B:
Most of ROR, although he's showing signs.
Josefson injury
Moulson's still here?

U:
NHL trolling Reinhart
The Montreal Refs in vacation in SoCal
Posters calling players dumb and stupid. It's getting old.

Good:
- Winning!
- Eichel is learning how to play defense
- Larsson is really good
- Bailey: so refreshing to have a grand total of TWO players now that can skate it out from our neutral zone instead of flipping it to nobody. I loved his controlled zone exit near the end of the 3rd
- Defense jumping in to keep pucks in deep...at least that was happening early on
- Beaulieau has looked better since his minutes were reduced, and he was pretty effective on the pinches today
- The Chad

Bad:
- McGrenade
- Risto
- Still no production from RoR/Reinhart...but getting close

Ugly:
- Anaheim without Kesler, Lindholm, Getzlaf, Vatanen and we barely scrape out a win.

Eichel was tremendous defensively today.

I only caught the second half or so of the game, but it was immediately noticeable that he was putting in the effort.

Unsurprisingly he was a nightmare for the ducks when he decided to get in their space. That Jack will win us a Cup.

G: I was not totally embarrassed at what I was watching.

B: Something's not right with ROR. Hopefully it's just a nagging thing that will take care of itself soon.

U: First win of the season. I've got nothing.

Sorry. It's just a lot easier to say than "he takes a lot of dumb penalties and makes bad decisions with the puck."

The future
Good: some new names in the goal column.
The Chad played great.
ROR’s play leading to the EN.
Bailey wants to make a case to stay in buffalo.
Better overall game for most of our D

Bad: Risto playing soft like butter
SHG against... again.

Ugly: the josephson boarding and lack of call.

Razor: stixteen stick penalties.

Forgot to mention Scandella.

He's our best defenceman at the moment. Not saying much but...

G: A WIN
Sam and ROR line showing signs of life.
The Chad.
The defence was not brutal and allowed The Chad to make the saves he did.
The PK unlike uesterday.
Bailey with instant impact literally.
Jack starting to become a good all situations centerman.

B: The Anaheim team right now. God, they are bad.
Sam still pointless although he clearly deserved to get on the board today.

U: The refs - A couple of no calls on us were brutal. And one of Kaners silly lenalties wasnt a penalty.
...speaking of Kane - stop with the Pejorative Slured penalties please man.
Our PP.
The fact that Lehner is our starter when we can give The Chad his chance.
Eichel refusing to shoot when he has one of the best releases in thr league - I dont get it.

G:
Scandella being solid made all the difference. Risto looked decent I’d say as w result
Eichel was solid all around, and especially good defensively
Chad was good.
Beaulieu no mistakes and clean game in diminished role
Gorges can’t play the system, but he tries

B:
McCabe was a train wreck. Woo

U:
Why is Kane getting minutes? He tried his hardest to ruin all the good things going tonight, after being successful last night. Bench him

Shittiest thing about tonight might be Josefson getting hurt on that hit from behind. Potential lineup shenanigans may ensue.

Well done, Chad Johnson. Good on DD and Ray for noting the composure he played with and how it can reverberate and settle everyone down. It was a leader’s performance, beautiful in its subtlety.

Sometimes more important than the flashy saves is that feeling that grows as the game goes on that you have nothing to worry about regarding chaos in net.

I asked for more from Reinhart after game two, and really, he has gotten better each game, with LA and ANA standing out as his two best by far.

Much better decision making across the board. More urgency with loose puck battles and races to areas. A forecheck with a purpose and a reset. It’s a LOT of new faces learning a new system with new teammates, it is bound to take time. Saw some of the things to look for and like down the line. Keep building.

Looking at the next 7 games...if the Sabres pick it up even moderately, there's no reason they can't walk out with 6 wins.

G:
We won
Bailey
The Chad
Beaulieu/Tenny has worked well together again
Scandella
Housley for putting Reinhart with ROR

B:
Josefson injured

U:
The usual that I'm sick of pointing out every game
Refs
Kane
Eichels shot selection and his empty net miss
Sabres powerplay for so many reasons. More shorties in a few games than all of last year and more shorties than actual PP goals? It's no longer funny at this point
The game. Were they playing with a tennis ball?
Reinhart troll
No Antipin still
Housley putting Kane back with Eichel instead of Girgs
