When you were one of the few, to land on your feet, despite all the trades, you'd hoped to make ends meet. A gambit narrowly gone awry - to rebuild with the hopes of making the playoffs - in the same year. GM Kruegs watched with paranoid eyes as the Lightning - like tigers - broke free from the tight play of the Capitals and secured their place in the playoffs. The Penguins were destined to win at least one of their games - and as GM Kruegs stared into his glass of Johnny Walker, "Not now John" were the only words uttered by the embattled patriot of the franchise. In the end, there was no hero's return to the playoffs for the Bruins. Relegated to 9th spot in the East, the Bruins could only ponder all possible pasts. The final cut had been made.

With the post season dream still fresh in their heads, the team met on a dock in Southhampton for a lobster boil to try and lift spirits. But alas, it was to no avail upon news of Petr Nedved being admitted to the Fletcher Memorial, a home for the incurable. He'd been physically removed from the Boston Gardens screaming "Get your filthy hands off my ice." A sad state of affairs for a player who had averaged over a point per game during the regular season.

Like a gunners dream, the post season dream was not without risk, but was ultimately shortly lived. As the team polished their golf clubs, and sharpened their smiles - they thought of the legions of warriors in the west. And with glasses raised, they toasted to the eventual utter defeat of their eastern conference rivals - under two suns in the sunset.

Long live the Bruins.
