The Avalanche lose Game 1 to the Winnipeg Jets 7-6 after Alex Georgiev's shockingly awful performance singlehandedly ruins what was actually a solid performance for Colorado in a game where they were the better team. There is no more discussion to be had, it is Justus Annunen's net from now on, Georgiev cannot go back in. The Avalanche did everything they needed to do to win this game and proved that they can beat the Jets, but now it comes down to a response in Game 2 to even up this series before coming home to Colorado. The Avalanche are a win away from moving on to the Second Round after an utterly dominant 5-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets in Game 4. Right now, the Avalanche are running the Jets out of this series, dominating them at even strength and on special teams. Cale Makar is doing things that only he can do, Lehkonen and Nichushkin continue their dominance in the playoffs, and Georgiev remains the best story in the league. Meanwhile, the Jets are crumbling. The Colorado Avalanche are moving on to the Second Round after beating the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 in Game 5, completing the gentleman's sweep in dominant fashion. The Avs are the first team in playoff history to score 5+ goals in a five game series, and they did it to the top defensive team in the NHL and the eventual Vezina winning goalie. 15 different players had a point in this series, Georgiev significantly outduels Hellebuyck to make us look stupid, and your best players were the best when it mattered most. Now, we wait for the Avalanche's second round opponent as the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights war it out, but in the meantime, let's realize just how special this team is.
