Yes, they would have to qualify every year. I suspect @Primary Assist has the right answer, the 1986-2000 Blues.

Nashville's last 5 years. Those are the 5 seasons after the SCF loss.

They could have had 8 in a row if it wasn't for 2017.

They could have another 8 in a row if they qualified for 2008-09 ('04-'12) . (Not counting the lock out season.)
