How would you guys construct an all time team Sweden?

My take:

Henrik Lundqvist
Tommy Salo
Pelle Linbergh

Nicklas Lidström - Kenny Jönsson
Victor Hedman - Erik Karlsson
Anders Eldebrink - Börje Salming

Daniel Sedin - Henrik Sedin - Håkan Loob
Markus Näslund - Peter Forsberg - Henrik Zetterberg
Mats Näslund - Mats Sundin - Daniel Alfredsson
Johan Franzen - Nicklas Bäckström - Mikael Renberg

I dont see Kenta Nilsson beating out Bäckström. The generation with Tumba etc where not that good.

But technically born in Stockholm. So he was Swedish-born. How are we determining who qualifies as "Swedish player" or not? Honest question.

In this case Bob himself has in interviews said that he more considers himself Canadian and American than Swedish. Even if he´s said he´s proud of his swedish heritage.

Stockholmaren som blev NHL-legendar - Old School Hockey Bob Nystrom - Hockeysverige

He also never touched a hockey stick or puck in Sweden, but begun playing as soon he arrived across the pond. So he´s never schooled in the swedish hockey system.

Had he decided to represent Sweden in the Canada Cup 1981 things may have been debatable as I see it (he was invited, but was in contract negotiations so wouldn´t risk anything...). But as things are now he´s no more swedish than Sandström or Widing are finnish.

On a team of 12 Swedish forwards, Kent Nilsson makes it for sure. I agree that Bob Nystrom is more Canadian.

who does kenta beat out. he is not better than forsberg, sundin, sedin, bäckström/zetterberg

I'd use him in place of one of the wingers. He's clearly much better than some of the guys on the various lists, even if he's out of position. Canada does this a lot in international competitions, loading up on their talented centers.

Assuming he can avoid injury (his Achilles' Heel), I think Tomas Sandström deserves a spot here.

Dude had a wicked slapper, very much akin to Robitaille's release, which caught goalies out of position (sort of like Sakic's wrist shot). His first PPG season was in 1986-87, when he led the Rangers with 40 goals in only 64 games, and his last PPG season was with the Pens in 1995-96, when he got 70 points in only 58 games. I point this out because it's significant that he could produce big numbers over a ten-year period in the NHL.

Unfortunately, we never saw his full-season stats because he was made of paper (despite this, he played with a lot of grit). Consequently, we're left with "what if's" for some of his most productive seasons.

In 1986-87, he was on pace for 50 goals and 93 points, but didn't play the full season (yeah, it was the 80s, but Gretzky-aside, the top scoring player that year had 107 points).

With the Kings in 1990-91, he was on pace for 53 goals and 105 points, but didn't play the full season.

With the Kings in 1992-93, he was on pace for 54 goals and 112 points, but didn't play the full season.

And with the Pens in 1995-96, he was on pace for 49 goals and 99 points, but didn't play the full season.

So, if we're talking about a cleaner style of hockey, like today, he'd be on my All-Time Swede team.

Where someone is born isn't that big of a deal. Juha Widing was born in Finland, but of Swedish parents, grew up in Gothenburg or somewhere on the Swedish west coast and represented Sweden internationally.

Sure Nyström is Swedish but the family left for Canada when he was 4. Hardly a Swedish hockey player.

Any team without Curt "Kurre" Lindsrtöm as it's head coach is terribly flawed.

There is NO doubt that Victor Hedman must be on a all-time team. He earned it.

The swedish-d is a no-brainer:

Nicklas Lidström - Kenny Jönsson
Victor Hedman - Erik Karlsson
? - Börje Salming

All of them are lcoks. But the last man is up to debate.

Kent beats out D Sedin. Easily.

The Swedes playing in 70-80s were much better than stats shows because of a total different type of hockey and coaches did not adapt anything from Europe. Put D Sedin in 1975 and he would score less than Inge Hammarström.

In my allstar team i would pick vast majority from 70/80s. Patrik Sundström and T Gradin would be superstars in todays NHL.
