Ok well theres this guy on my team ive known this dude for like 17 years. But he is a total *******, we are playing for the championship and he takes penalties for the stupidest things, my coach wants me to talk to the guy since im the Captian. But seriously this guy is crazy, here are some of the things he does

Fights anyone that is french

Swears at the refs

Taunts the refs, calling them names

Treatins to fight the whole other team

Sticks the middle finger up to fans (keep in mind kids are in the crowed), he swears and grabs his crotch while taunting the fans

Shoots pucks at the other teams bench on purpose

he slashes players whenever he can, hell he will fight whenever he can

He shows up to games sometimes drunk or high sometimes both.

The coach doesnt want to bench him because he is one of our better players, he can score goals on demand and is very fast. But the coach wants me hell he needs me to talk to him about toning down penalties and so on. How can i since the guy is my friend and i dont want to insult the dude.

Another thing what would you do if there was guy on ur team like this guy? And if you were the captian of the team, how would you react to player like that?

what would you do if you were the coach? would you bench him, knowing he can get you the goals that can win big games?

My coach actually tried to tell him that but he basically just told the coach to go to hell and used alot of swear words. Any time a team mate tries to talk to him he always says something along the lines of "eat ****, without me you wouldnt have entertainment, and you wouldnt be winning games"

It didn't work because it was an empty threat and the kid knew it. If the coach suspended him, cut his ice time, or did whatever it took to get him to respect the team it would do a lot. Even Gretzky respected his teammates so why should this guy get away with murder. I think you should talk to your coach about this first and make sure that he has your back and go in there with some type of threat. Tell him like coach wants to bench you/suspend you/whatever but I told him to give me a shot to give you a heads up. If you go in with that point of view and he doesn't respect you your coach should bench him. You're the captain so you're the link between the players and the coach, this should be your job but it should be with the assistance of your coach.

Nobody is good enough to get away with stuff like that, who cares if you win if he makes everyone on your team look like a fool. If the Eagles can get rid of Terrell Owens, you guys can handle this kid, good luck.

This guy has been suspended 6 times this season, and most of the games that hes been gone for we lost or tied. So i guess he gets the fealing we cant win without him. My team is nothing without our top line he me and another guy are on it, if he gets suspended that top line goes to the dogs basically. Putting a another guy on it just doesnt work for us. Yes me and the other guy can score, but without him on the team we miss the pyshical pressance. Without him we dont hit alot, me and a couple other guys do the hitting, but with him the team hit more i guess because they know the guy is there so they are protected and whatever. I am the captian of this team and i want to win the championship this year, as much as it saddens me to say this we wont win it without this guy. So the coach suspending him wont help this at all, and i think my coach knows this. 4 of his suspentions have been major 2 have been for 4 or more games. Mostly for fighting and doing something stupid during the fight.

I aint afriad of the dude, but seriously can this guy be stopped? he has shown numerious times he isnt afraid of the refs, the coach or the league. How would you guys handle this situation?

I'd love to have a guy like that playing for me. So he's a major **** disturber AND he's an offensive force? Where is the issue?

Maybe you should tell him to tame it down slightly. Maybe.

I would tell the coach to do his job. As a coach, it is my responsibility for the team actions and I should be the one to talk to him, not one of my players.

Yes, I know you are the Captain, but discipline should be the coaches job. As for the coach, he should channel that negative energy so that it works for the team.

The first thing I would do is use the so called "sandwich" theory on him. You know, Something good about his play, then the action that I want corrected, followed up by something that is positive and that will help the team and make sure that his actions help the team rather then hurt the team.

All's the coach needs to do is use some simple management tools.

that is easier said then done, the coach has tried alot of different things with the guy all season. But he still thinks he is the heart and soul of the team, he thinks he can do anything he wants and when he wants to do it. If you tell him something positive you are just building his ego even more then it is right now!

If your coach had any nuts he would have taken care of this problem a long time ago. Asking you to do it for him now leads me to believe that he should be doing something besides coaching hockey. Your coach should tell the guy to tone it down or he doesn't play and when he doesn't tone it down set him on the bench right next to him for period. If that doesn't work, set him right next to him for a whole game. Unfortunately this should have been done a long time ago and you wouldn't be in this situation now. Now it's too late and you'll probably have to suffer through it. Your coach really needs to find something else to do though, because coaching hockey doesn't seem to be working so much. As soon as you let the players run the team, you're done and it sounds like that's exactly what's happening. I've coached 100's of kids in hockey and baseball from pee wee all the way through juniors and taking away playing time always works. You can try and talk to him before this one last game and see if that works but this isn't your mess. Good Luck!

I dont think it will work for this guy, this guy has been kicked out of a league for fighting his own coach 3 years ago, during a game! hell in that game he faught his own team mate. The refs pulled him off the guy finally the coach was yelling at him from the bench as he was escorted off the ice so they guy skates over to the bench pulls the coach off the bench and starts giving him head shots. His team mates didnt even do anything about it. All i could do is watch from my bench. I think my coach is in a way afraid of this guy, since he doesnt know what he will do when he gets benched or whatever.

If he doesn't go on the ice, he can't do that stuff. If he fights with people (coach teammates, etc.) on the bench or in the rink call the police and put him in jail. Nobody needs to put up with that crap. Someday he will run into someone that won't put up it. Hopefully it won't be a guy on the other end of a gun.

Insult him.

He's been doing it to everyone else.

Just let him know that he is a valued member of the team and he loses value when he is missing games or time for something that isn't needed. Also let him know that when he is acting up he is making the team look bad and that such a team first guy should know better. Making him responsible for his actions and letting him know just how much he means to the team might make him "cure" himself.

Even if he had Mario talent, I would permanently remove him from the team. Agressive play and agitation is part of the game, not respecting teamates, refs, coaches and the game itself is intolerable. Your coach needs to step up and end the problem. You calling him "your friend" is also the problem. As a captain you need to lead, leaders don't give a problem a crutch.

What he said.

He should be told to either shape up or he'll be cut. No coach worth anything would tolerate that kind of behavior. Your coach obviously has no control of his team.

Your coach is a joke.

My coach just doesnt know how to handle this one guy, he is a great coach he did lead us to the best regular season team, and to a championship. Are you saying that you would cut a guy who can score 30-40 goals a season? just because he has a mean side?

NHL teams won't touch Richard Lelkes for that exact reason. It's also why Billy Tibbets can't get regular employment. There's also that guy named Theo Fleury.

A mean side? I've got a temper when I play hockey, but I don't do anything close to what your friend does. He's a bad teammate. He doesn't respect your team, or your coach.

I understand he's your friend, but he needs a bigtime wakeup call. He sounds like a very troubled guy who could probably use councling.

Doesn't sound like he respects anyone, and also doesn't sound like the coach is manning up to the situation. You've gotta tell Sean Avery over there to tone ot down or he's going to get benched, and you have to tell the coach that he has to have the balls to bench him.

Simple theory, be an idiot, go sit down.

If that doesn't work someone's gonna have to Scott Steven's him a few times.
