Looks like Sturm picked up my idea of putting a technicaly strong center together with Michaelis and Tiffels to carry the line. He just took it further then I expected it bye putting Leon instead of Kahun on the line^^

Gotta say there is a lot of depth improvement in the past couple of years and I would be surprised if it stopped there with all the kids playing over in north America.

Maybe he just couldn't pick up your idea simply for the fact that Kahun is still playing with Munich in the DEL finale... ;-)

Yes! Yasin Ehliz with the equalizer vs. France, assisted by Markus Eisenschmid. Well-played. 16 minutes to play in the last third, GER now on the PP.

Markus Eisenschmid (C) 's performance in Saturday's OT-win vs. France hit me by surprise. He's a fast skater, and passes with soft hands.
We didn't play well overall, but him and Ehliz left a great impression as Drai's linemates. The trio seems to click with each other.
Now that LA's Tobias Rieder (RW) declined, one of the big questions to answer will be, who plays on Drai's RW. In the end it's more likely that it will be a more experienced guy like Matthias Plachta, but who knows - it could be one of the (other) youngsters from North America. :thumbu:

Sturm's boys are now heading to Vojens in Southern Denmark, they'll face a Danish team who won two tight matches in Belarus with 2:1 and 2:0. It wouldn't surprise me, if we see that Ehliz-Draisaitl-Eisenschmid line combo begin this match again.
Joining the team then will be the other two NHLers Dennis Seidenberg (LD) and Korbinian Holzer (RD).
In the meantime, I have no idea what happened with David Wolf (LW/RW), whether he wasn't invited, or whether he is injured? Does anyone here know? :help: No news about his status with the team.

As for the Danes, they will still be playing without their only NHL-guy so far Frans Nielsen (C), who is expected to hit the ice in the last exhibition game vs. the U.S. boys in Herning on May 1.
Also having an impact on the rosters on Wednesday is the still open DEL final, after Eisbären Berlin beat defending champion EHC Red Bull München in yesterday's game 5 in spectacular fashion, and send the series back to Berlin for game 6 (EBB 2:3 RBM). Because of that, Denmark will also be playing without Mads Christensen (C/LW), and Markus Lauridsen (D), the latter recovering from a finger fracture.
The German national players still involved in this series: Marcel Noebels (LW), Jonas Müller (RD), Frank Hördler (LD) for Berlin, and Patrick Hager (C), Domink Kahun (C), Frank Mauer (RW), Brooks Macek (RW), Yannic Seidenberg (LD), Daryl Boyle (RD), and Danny aus den Birken (GK) for München.

Which is pretty much about half the roster ;-D

David Wolf is injured. I don't know what kind of injury but in this article it said he would miss the tournament because of it.

Neben Goc und Reimer muss Bundestrainer Marco Sturm bei der anstehenden WM auch auf den Kölner Felix Schütz (private Gründe) und den Mannheimer David Wolf (verletzt) verzichten.

Cheers, @Maverick41 ! Somehow , I didn't hear about that.

So, 8 olympic heroes in Felix Schütz, Marcus Kink, David Wolf, Patrick Reimer, Marcel Goc, Gerrit Fauser, Leo Pföderl and Christian Ehrhoff either retired or had to decline due to injury, while Leon Draisaitl, Dennis Seidenberg and Korbinian Holzer become new locks.

That leaves 6 open roster spots in the offense, while at least 1 olympic defender won't make the final roster. Maybe a bit too early to speculate on who gets chosen, but I think that Daniel Pietta will be in. Then I expect 5 more players to be chosen from the more experienced quartet of Marcel Müller, Sebastian Uvira, Mirko Höfflin and Nico Krämmer, and the youngster-quartet Markus Eisenschmid, Frederik Tiffels, Marc Michaelis and Maximilian Kammerer.
At the moment, I'd personally prefer Uvira, and all the young guns - Eisenschmid, Tiffels, Michaelis and Kammerer, but that seems unlikely. Sturm may not get along without Müller's scoring abilities.

I think the chances are quite good, that also Bernhard Ebner (and maybe even Oliver Mebus) makes the WHC roster, which means that 2 defenders out of the olympic quartet Sinan Akdag, Björn Krupp, Frank Hördler and Daryl Boyle wouldn't make the final roster. All based on the assumption that Yannic Seidenberg and both Moritz Müller and Jonas Müller are locks.

Not enough that we'll have to replace all three of our top defensive centers (Goc+Schütz+Fauser), two of our best goalgetters (Pföderl+Reimer), two of our most powerful wingers (Kink+Wolf) and our most experienced defender in Ehrhoff...

...more trouble is ahead. Marco Sturm today on the 10 other national team players still involved in the DEL final Berlin - München: "Es gibt einige Verletzte, die momentan spielen, aber bei der WM nicht spielen können." --> "There are some of those players who are currently playing with injuries, but won't be able to play at the WHC."

Arbeitsloser NHL-Profi: DEB-Team fährt ohne Rieder zur WM

Word has it that one of those players is Dominik Kahun, who plays with a hand injury. :help: if that's true, we can start to forget about the dream of reaching the QFs.
How is Draisaitl + Pietta/Marcel Müller + a group of talented, but inexperienced players going to replace 8 first team regulars from the Olympics?!
This team will still have a decent defense, but it looks like it will get a good deal weaker on the attack.

New roster scenario
(black = players who already joined the team; grey = players from the Berlin/München PO series, who are expected to join the team; *olympic medal winners)

So, in the best case scenario with Dominik Kahun there'd be 14 out of 25 olympic medalists left in the WHC team. 11 new players, including 3 of our 6 current NHLers.

The worrying aspects of this team:

Lack of defensive specialists at centre and robust players on the wing position. Lack of top end wingers who can score and decide games (Pföderl+Reimer).
If Kahun doesn't join the team, we get an additional playmaker problem. With all the other important guys missing, his absence, cannot be compensated.

The positive aspects ~:

Some talented young guys with speed could join the team. The goalie trio stays strong, and the defensive pairings have gotten an upgrade.

Somehow my expectations are set strictly on the level of avoiding relegation, with the hosts in the same group making it to the playoff round will be difficult this time despite it being the "easier" one. Just no complacency after Pyeongchang.

My expectations look like yours, but they'd be much different, if this was the actual team that won the medal + Draisaitl/D.Seidenberg/Holzer and just a few other reinforcements.
