When does this tournament start? Have the Sudbury Wolves released Foligno to play?....it would seem kind of strange that they would, unless he isn't a very important part of their team right now?

Is Brian Lee on this team?

The first games are on the 9th. I would imagine he's been released to play if he's on the roster.

Lee isn't on the roster. I suppose it's possible that he didn't want to miss anymore of his team's games. They'll be done by the WC's though so he'll be available.

There's up roster on the swehockey.se website that includes Taylor Chorney and Nick Foligno in addition to Rau, Strait and the rest of the U18 team.

http://stats.swehockey.se/ (U18 5-Nations ---> Team Rosters)

Foligno played with the team last year so that should help him fit in well. I'll be interested to see how Rau does. It really says something that they've chosen to take Strait over Erik Johnson.
Erick Johnson is a great player and I do believe he will be a top ten NHL draft pick. I think Strait's strength is his skating and in the International tournaments skating is everything. There taking 8 defenceman so it will be interseting to see how much ice time he gets.

Yeah, that's what you guys were saying about the WJC's!

This team is extremely weak on defense. The best defensemen Vojta, Kudelka will play for new U-20 team at the tourney also in Sweden. Also underagers like Ruzicka and Nakladal won´t play at the tourney. Forward lines look solid, also some forwards will play for U-20 team(Hanzal, Kalus, Kana).

I think this is a mistake by the Czechs. The scouts REALLY want to see the best prospects showcased against their peers- it's the most accurate barometer. The other teams are sending their best U18s to this tourney (OK, the US has some players locked up in the CHL). I think it could hurt the draft exposure for these top Czech prospects (Hanzal, Vojta, Kudelka).

I don't see why they would want to use the best players in the U19 tournament, unless they want to have more room to test players for the U18 WCs. I don't really know how much the draft exposure matters, or how much it should even matter, but it would sound like a good idea to try to get the team together here to prepare for the WCs

I agree with you but coaches of the team made the roster not scouts...
Don´t forget even some of the better Swedish prospects as Hjalmarsson will play for U-20 team.
However in generally good point.

Here are a few guys that will get early consideration as there teams are either out of their league playoff races or very close to missing the playoffs.

Not a bad looking team already.....

Kenndal McArdle - Moose Jaw Warriors
Nick Drazenovic - Prince George Cougars
Adam Hobson - Spokane Chiefs
R.J. Larochelle - Swift Current Broncos
Carey Price - Tri-City Americans
Real Cyr - Prince George Cougars
Cal Clutterbuck - Oshawa Generals
Tom Pyatt - Saginaw Spirit
Richard Clune - Sarnia Sting
Patrick McNeill - Saginaw Spirit
Ryan Wilson - Toronto St. Mike's Majors
Ryan Parent - Guelph Storm
Jordan Clendenning - Acadie-Bathurst Titan
Mathieu Carle - Acadie-Bathurst Titan
Luc Bourdon - Val'dor Foreurs

You can add two guys like Marc Andre Gragani and Bryan Little to the list as two guys who could be named to the team if their teams hit a bit of a slump and miss their respective league playoffs.

Team Canada will more than likely wait until the 1st round of the CHL playoffs are over before naming the roster for the U18 team, but they could name a few guys early who missed the playoffs or they will at least contact some guys right away.

Crosby won't play for U18

Habsfan 32 said:
IMO opinion Crosby should go if his team is eliminated. Canada will be just fine even if some of the best players are not there.

Crosby has signed an agreement with Hockey Canada that he would only play for U20 team. Stupid of Hockey Canada not to make him available.
