I watched some videos, and his partner was more noticeable.

Didn't really see any issues, but also didn't really anything that struck me as being elite in any way. I see him as a late first simply because he projects to be an NHLer, but his upside might be second pairing. Getting a second pair D as a late first or early second is still a decent pick. I think he falls below 15 though.

Getting a 2nd pairing D at 22 is a f***ing great pick.

I started the year liking Stankoven a lot.

But I don’t see how I could take him at 22/23 over some of these center prospects. (Stankoven might be listed as a C some places but I think he’s for sure a winger).

The only wingers I’d take at 22/23 are Coronato, Rosen, Lysell, or if someone like Lucius drops. Otherwise I’m looking for Pinnelli, Bourgault, Raty, or Svechkov.

Bob McKenzie has guys like Samoskevich, Tuommala, and Kisakov in the 31-37 range. I’d just as well take one of those wingers in the 2nd. I don’t see Stankoven being above those guys. They are all bigger and skate better, and are skilled players.

Mike Green - 29 OA
John Carlson - 27 OA
Kronwall - 29 OA

1st pair is a great pick. Second pair is an OK pick. I think we're just accustomed to failure with late 1st round D picks because of Cholo, Smith and Kindl. I would be happy with a second pair LHD though. Not ecstatic, but content, lol.

I just named the Caps picks since I follow the team. Look at their bottom 1st picks, and they've done fairly well. Funny thing is, it's their pick.

We have different standards because the Wings suck at drafting at the bottom of the first and the Caps have done much better. Raise your standards buddy, lol.

I just gave you every defenseman drafted in NHL history at 22nd overall.

If you get a Kronwall or Jiri Fischer at 22, you've kicked ass.
You're more likely to get a Kindl or a true bust than you are to get a 600-game, top 4 defenseman.
That's just the reality of picking late in round 1.

If you look at ONE particular draft spot, it completely skews the picture. Look at the defensemen picked at #1 overall, it's not an impressive list. Doesn't mean you can't get a good defensemen in that spot.

The Caps managed to get Green, Carlson, Varlamov, Kuznetsov, Burakovsky, and Samsonov late in the first round. You're just accustomed to the Wings draft failures.
