I was playing Sportsdesk in the back ground while I was doing a project (so not really paying attention) and they said something about the bottom 3 teams would have an equal % chance to win the lottery. Not sure if they were talking NBA or NHL but its not a terrible idea.

Not exactly tank nation, but there are still Leafs fans who want to trade upcoming UFAs JVR, Bozak and Komarov "cause you can't let them walk for nothing." Even if means getting nothing in return this year to help the team make the playoffs or have any sort of Cup run.

We are 44-28-15 since the beginning of last season.

43-24-15 in our last 82 games.(101 points)

Wow we suck at tanking..

Tank nation is so so dead and buried.
I heard Buffalo is bringing it back to life though ;)

I'd take a year off to get a free Dahlin/Svechnikov/Boqvist added to this core for more chance of becoming a dynasty since I don't think we're winning the cup this year. It's just Leafs are guaranteed making the playoffs as guaranteed it can be. (Which I LOVE)

Trust me we have used up our luck and would not get a top 5 pick even if.... Mathews and then Liljegren(17th) is about as lucky as you get.

The job (core) is already done: Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Rielly, Kadri

Tanking wasn't enjoyable. Only a means to an end while keeping our sanity. Now we get to enjoy the rewards.

This would be good asset management but we aren't on that page.

With the Boyle rental, Lou is clearly willing to forego draft picks for players that can play.

Keeping JVR and/or Bozak may be this year's version of Boyle.

Surely nobody thinks this is a thing?

I know I'm new to this but this team is flying and looks very much like a contender.

Some of you guys are scarred bad from previous regimes

I think I would be fine trading JVR. But in a draft day sign and trade.

If you ask me, there's enough Wing depth to make up for the loss, and it gives extra assets to play with at the draft, while not hurting their playoff chances.

If there doesn't appear to be a deal to be made, let him walk.

Vegas sportsbooks had us as one of the teams most likely to be in the Finals. Teams like that don't generally tank.

I don't even think we could tank of we tried. Maybe if Andy went down, but even then, I don't think we can be Arizona bad for an entire season.

Every situation is different and every situation has to be taken on it's own merits.

BTW I know you hated the Boyle trade but from where I sit, it's looking better and better every day. The idea behind that trade was obviously to get us into the playoffs and again, yeah I know you don't think that experience is important but boy I couldn't disagree more. We actually have a shot at winning the cup this year and I like our chances much better than I would had we not had that taste of what the playoffs are like last spring. Now instead of all those 2nd year players being in the playoffs for the first time, all those guys have the confidence that comes with having been there and performed well. That could pay off big-time come spring time.

We got no players back in that trade but nevertheless, in some respects we got incredible bang for our buck in that one.

Ah Gary,

Tampa's record improved without Boyle. And they got an asset for him, so they are happy.

Sad that you don't think this team could have made the playoffs on their own merit.

If you really think that getting Boyle was 100% correlated to getting in the playoffs and any achievement in that regard is fully due to his presence... well that's silly.

As far as injecting confidence.... it was nice having training wheels on my bike but I took a lot more pride when I could ride without them.

Too much youthful skill in this team to tank. Even if you were to remove the likes of JvR, Komarov, and Bozak from the lineup, it's still a good enough team to put up points and keep you out of a bottom 5.

Edmonton are also the cautionary tale - eventually you've got to stop "rebuilding" and start "building". The Leafs are in the process of raising a young core of players up. A tank year would hurt their development, and would prolong the attempt to build things back up.

Last year was hilarious making the playoffs and drafting Lilljegren. I would say Matthews, Nylander, Brown, Dermott, Liligren, Marner and the plethora of other young talent was enough. This team needs to win a championship in the next 2 years.

We need to keep our picks instead of using them in some kind of a tread, the more picks you have the better are your chances to acquire some good prospects

It's a joke to think about tanking with the talent and depth we have

Tanking s self destructive thinking at this point. You are basically hoping all our Core players fail all for a shiny new pick.

People around the league are all saying "Watch out for Toronto" When you get that kind of admiration already.. you know you're building it right. we're 87 regular season games removed from 1st overall pick and have quickly become a dangerous team.

Ah Gary,

Tampa's record improved without Boyle. And they got an asset for him, so they are happy.

If you think the fact that their record improved without Boyle is relevant here (I can only assume you do as you've mentioned this many times before) than that only shows that you're still struggling with the concept of sample size (not to mention elementary logic).

Sad that you don't think this team could have made the playoffs on their own merit.

Is that what you think I said? Now that is said.

If you really think that getting Boyle was 100% correlated to getting in the playoffs and any achievement in that regard is fully due to his presence... well that's silly.

Is that what you think I said? More sadness.

As far as injecting confidence.... it was nice having training wheels on my bike but I took a lot more pride when I could ride without them.

LOL. That's a completely useless analogy but I'm happy for you anyway.
