We secure the 7th pre-lotto draw pick slit...thank you EDM ! It could have been a lot worse for us if we had not lost outright tonight. .but all worked out for us ...goal was to secure a top 8 pick ..but still remind you that 1,2 or 3 of the teams standing behind us could win the lotto .. ..though probability is slim that more than 1 of EDM NYR or NYI manages to land a top 3 ...still it would be maddening of all 3 pulled off a miracle to bump us back 3 more spots. ..Most likely is that we get bumped back 1 spot ...probably by lucky EDM or lucky NYR ...still watching the shoot-out ...and Oilers win the game ...So the 2 points vaults them past NYR ...Do you not get the feeling NYR lands Dahlia? OR EDM ? OR that 1 of them lands at least a top 3 in a litho win? it is crazy to expect luck for that feat to come our way. .the hockey gods will not help hawks fans celebrate ant thing that good this season ...so do not bet the farm on us getting lucky .I guess we are going to have to accept a bump back in all probability to 8th or a slimmer chance of 2 bump back spots to 9th...but it could have been worse ..so.lwt us could tour blessings and the marketing Depth can at least guarantee we have secured at worst a top ten pick but probably an 8th overall since surely 1 will cone from behind to bump us back ..I would be surprised if we just held 7th. ..I would be flabbergasted if we did get lucky and got a top 3bproze in the lotto draw..Luck and the Hawks this season do not seem to mix.

According to Tankathon, we'll have a 6.5% chance at Dahlin, a 6.8% at 2nd, 7.1% for 3rd, 26% for 7th, 39.5% for 8th, 13.1% for 9th, and only a single percent chance at number 10.

So we have roughly a 1 in 5 chance at winning a lottery pick. Not too terrible, especially because the odds are that some team will jump up quite a bit and get one of those picks.

How do the hawks have higher chance to win the 8th than 7th which is the actual spot the finished? That seems not right to me.

Because the teams below them have a chance to win a lottery (top 3) pick. So say an Edmonton or a Carolina manages to get lucky and win #2 overall, it' would push the teams in front of them all down.

If the Hawks won a lottery pick, a team like Detroit would be bumped down at least one because we moved up.

I saw Rasmus Dahlin a little during the Junior Tournament earlier this year and he looked good, but he certainly is not a difference maker. At this point in his development, I would rather have at least 50 current NHL defensemen over him. He had 7 goals, 13 assists, 20 points with a +4 in 41 games in the Swedish Hockey League this year. His team, Frolunda finished third out of fourteen teams. He will be 18 on Friday, he is just a kid playing mainly with men, but he is 6.02, 181 pounds and if he is the best player in this years draft, he should stand out in that league. Teammate Matt Donovan had 7 goals, 20 assists, 27 points with a +11 in 52 games, maybe the Blackhawks should sign him, he might be a second pairing defensemen on the Blackhawks.

If someone is expecting him to be top-50 defenseman in the League right now, lol.

For comparison: Erik Karlsson in Frölunda year after he was drafted 45 games, 10 points.

He is the real deal and he will be difference maker. I dont know which junior tournament you are referring to but as underage he played against his peers and older guys and was in my opinion the 2nd best Dman of the WJC20 tournament. As 17 years old. Kid. A child.

Did you just say Dahlin is not a game changer? This is just incredibly wrong because Dahlin has franchise changing talent.

Maybe, maybe not. He has to develop, he currently is not a game changer. I am thinking about next year, how is this team going to be better.

Dahlin probably will be a very good NHL player but it takes time for a defenseman to develop. It seems to me that people on this site think he is a saviour. This Hawks team had a horrible year, and with long term contracts for declining players, the near term looks bad. If Dahlin actually wound up with the Blackhawks, I think there would be extremely high expectations of him which could not be met for at least five years. Whenever I see Buffalo play I see Rasmus Ristolainen make head scratching decisions, he is still learning after 4 1/2 seasons. Will you give Dahlin that long to develop?

Dahlin would be a game changer from the start. He would make mistakes but he would still be a game changer.

He’s 17 years old. You compared him to Matt Donovan, a grown man who’s been playing professionally for years. I promise you, if he’s allowed to play his game on whatever team gets him, he’ll be a difference maker next year as an 18 year old blue liner.

I'm probably wrong, but I don't think that's how probabilities work. They have specific odds to pick 1st, specific odds to pick 2nd, and specific odds to pick 3rd, but the sum of those probabilities =/= their odds of a top 3 pick.

If you have a 60% chance to pick 1, 40% chance to pick 2, then you have a 100% chance to pick in the top 2. LOL
