Khan repeated they are planning on Rasmussen next season, terrific news. Just like Svechnikov I don't care if they're not good enough yet to dominate in the top 6, the Wings must start acting like a rebuilding team by investing/gambling on the future.

Super excited to see what the highest pick in the last 30 years can contribute now and down the road.

Looking at our roster...
If we have Svech and Rasmussen, who's out of the lineup.
Here are our returning forwards.
We have room for 12 forwards.

Zetterberg
Nyquist
Abdelkader
Nielsen
Larkin
Mantha
Athanasioiu
Nielsen
Bertuzzi
Glendening
Helm
Frk
---
Rasmussen
Svech
Turgeon

My guess is that Frk is one guy who loses his job. And I'm fine with Turgeon starting in the pressbox and fighting his way in.
But who beyond Frk, which one of those guys loses his lineup spot?

You have Nielsen twice. Helm and Frk should be gone but we'll see. Beyond that, everyone there is expendable besides basically Larkin and Z. Don't see why it should be too difficult.

They will trade Nyquist away. Maybe at the draft.

Well, on top of just roster spots, you have to ask, who are the forwards that get relegated to 8-10 minutes a night?

We can have more than 12 forwards.

Possible Glendening/Nyquist trades.

Frk is easily expendable.

Zero trouble fitting everyone in.

I don't understand the Glendening hate. He's a valuable player and will be on our starting roster. Whats with you people and shiny new toys.

I think Glenny does a decent job.

But the question is, if Svech and Rasmussen are on the team next year, who do they replace?

Hes fine, but we are in full blown rebuild and if we can trade him for picks then you do it and let kids play. We are not going anywhere with him.

He's a bottom6 guy who isn't even super cheap. Maybe a contender wants him for his experience, faceoffs, and depth. For a rebuilding team, he's completely replaceable.

Even if you like the guy you have to admit that.

I think one of the reasons why you look at trading Glendening is that Turgeon plays in the same kind of role.
To be honestly, I was surprised they called up Svech before Turgeon.

Still, i don't give away Glendening for a 4th or 5th at this point.

AA-Larkin-Mantha
Nyquist-Z-Rasmussen
Svechnikov-Nielsen-Bertuzzi
Abdelkader-Turgeon-Helm

That's the crew I'd roll with next year.

I agree except glendenning over Gurgaon.

And I'd maybe gamble and let ras center and move z to wing.

Maybe pray to the hockey gods and someone like Arizona would take helm for a used jock strap. I'll keep dreaming!

rebuild or not, every team needs good fourth-liners, and he is a good fourth-liner. not everyone is destined to score 50 goals a season.

Not that success at the junior level always translates, but good to see Rass with 10 points in 3 playoff games so far.

Then again, that Tri-City team is absurdly good all around

If Svechnikov and Rasmussen are on the team next season, it probably looks like this:

(with 1-12 in no particular order)
1. Zetterberg
2. Larkin
3. Mantha
4. Nyquist
5. Nielsen
6. Abdelkader
7. Helm
8. Athanasiou
9. Bertuzzi
10. Glendening
11. Rasmussen
12. Svechnikov
---------------------
13. Frk
14. Witkowski (also #8D)

Turgeon probably has a good chance to start the year in Detroit if they have an injured C and/or PK guy, but probably goes to GR when everyone is healthy.
