You didn't pick defensemen that usually go in the Gerard, Savard, C.Johnson range, but I did it by design, mostly because of chemistry.

I prefer my defense stylistically, but they seem close.

King Clancy was ignored!

Well done guys. I had a lot of fun watching these teams come together. And yes, clearly two different styles of play going on here.

I wish I knew the pre-war players better. My team would be a bit post war heavy.

Fun stuff to research

It was fun!

Loved the format. Brilliant idea BB! I'd love to do this again with 3 players or more.... changing the dynamics of the pick selection decision making (wouldn't get Orr, Gretzky and Lemieux ;) )

It went fast early on, but once the lines had a player, then line chemistry became a consideration, and it took longer to decide.

Yes I agree the pace slowed down.I feel the total duration was perfect.

Would be cool to do it with 4 GMs, but not more.

Maybe Thenameless want to do it later this month or something like that. Then we can ask the ATDers.

Good job.

As for Gretzky, Lemieux and Orr, well... I prefer Harvey to at least one of them anyway :naughty:

Clancy, Apps, Bathgate, Schmidt have a case as the best players undrafted.
I heemed and hummed about Bathgate but just thought he didn't fit on the lines I was building.

Delvecchio was hard to leave off. I went with Abel instead.

When we started I thought a guy like Elias would be on the 7th or 8th line, but after all, he was beat out by better players and a couple of special skillsets (Lehtinen, Tikkanen).

EDIT: And I just couldn't find a place for Scott Niedermayer, though I tried several times!

Yeah, Elias too low and not specialist enough.

Bathgate, not good enough as a PP pointmen, could have made it on one of the lines, but apparently not.

If we do it with 4 teams, surely a guy like Elias will find his place.

The format is tricky, it's not clear what the middle lines are supposed to do, so I just made them all two-way lol

By the way always nice to have spectators in these marathon. It's not the first time we attempt this, but we used different formats.

Our first marathon was legendary, and much, much longer. We had six teams each.

The second attempt was a fiasco, bad format made it too complicated, we stopped before finishing it.

This third format is awesome.

Okay. Now, a fun what-if. What if you had to ice two complete line-ups for two games to be played simultaneously, one home and one away. And you cannot change the lines or pairings you have already made. And the PP specialist line is only for the home game and the PK specialists are only for the road game, which ones would you choose for the home, which for the away?

Ted Lindsay - Sidney Crosby - Gordie Howe
I dunno if this line would work well. The Production Line had Delvecchio and Abel, neither of which touched the puck a lot and both were responsible defensively. I think switching Crosby and Kennedy would help both lines!
Alex Ovechkin - Bryan Trottier - Mike Bossy
Who should Trotts feed the puck? Someone is gonna be unhappy. I'd put Leclair as a giant upgrade over Gillies as the big guy to go to the net for screens and crease passes. But maybe not, 'cuz Lindros chemistry. Hmmm,... Dickie Moore! Then the OV-Pocket-Sr. line could be about getting the puck to Alex, with Henri an upgrade on a Backstrom-type pivot.

Love your pairings! Only, I'm not sure how Ching and Pierre would work. They might, it's just hard to visualize. I'd have to research that.

Yeah, my Ovechkin-Trottier-Bossy line was one of my least favorite. But I had to put Ovechkin somewhere.

This was awesome VanI.

Personally, my favorite line on your team is Olmstead-Lemieux-M.Richard, oh man!
