He seems to have had a very good year coming in 2nd in scoring for defencemen. Anyone know why he wasn"t drafted and what his potential is?

Later was never drafted because he had never done anything until he joined the Wheat Kings at the trade deadline last year (as a 19 year old). The Wheat Kings got him for nothing (late round bantam draft pick) and have watched him turn into a great player.

He doesn't have blazing speed, but somehow has the ability to make end to end rushes without losing the puck - if often amazes me at how often he looks like he is about to lose control of the puck, only to keep battling and come away with it still in his possession. He is the type of guy who works extremely hard and is willing to go to war for his teammates and IMO is one of the most valuable players on the WK's this year (even though they have Fehr and Stone). That being said, I don't see him ever making the NHL.

    Potentially an AHL regular.
