I never understood why the State Fair waited until October. It would seem to make more sense that last week of September, but maybe that's just the hockey fan in me.

I'm guessing it's because of the weather. October is typically a dry month here, and there's fewer allergies to deal with as opposed to having it in March or April. But I don't know.

It probably originated surrounding something to do with the yearly harvest. Then, tradition. And yes, early October's a pretty great month for weather.

Something to do with the harvest... but what? :dunno:
Uhhh...the end of it, probably. Hard for those guys and girls on the farm to bring their wares to the State Fair for a week if they are still getting the crops out of the field.

I was being sarcastic

Even today, the fair is largely a way for farmers to both compete for superlatives and sell their best product. Can’t do that till you harvest it...

I should have guessed...you can never be too sure, though.

I had no idea we had so many FFA members on this board. Still, the vast majority of the crops have been harvested well before mid September.

Yes, but that is not always the busiest portion of the fall season for some farms. My in-laws farm also gins the cotton for lots of farms in their area and they are probably busier after the cotton has been picked than before.

Yup, cotton is indeed a later season crop....livestock knows no seasons....I was mostly joking, but not totally :thumbu:
