Hey all,

Some of you may remember me as an avid an insightful poster form back in the day. Sorry to say I don't come around here much anymore. Not a lot of time for hockey in my life but rest assured that I am still a Canes fan through and my blood still runs red. I mean I guess that last thing is true for everyone but you know what I mean.

I work from home now in Toronto and it's frigging cold up here as is usually the case this time of year. I didn't really plan on leaving the house yesterday but I had to mail off some things for work and then hit the Dollarama (local dollar store chain) to pick up a few items. I was wearing layers upon layers of sweats and despite showering I looked like a disheveled bridge person.

Anyway, as I'm at the dollar store grabbing a few items I see a man with his wife and young daughter. She's maybe 4 or 5 years old. The daughter that is, not the wife. They are getting some school supplies and looking at some toys. I say to myself "Wow, that guy is a dead ringer for ex NHLer, Stanley Cup champion, and Carolina Hurricanes great, Tomas Kaberle". But then I thought, "Why the hell would Tomas Kaberle be shopping at a Dollarama at 5:30pm on a Wednesday with his wife and child? Surely he must have better things to be doing than that. And before Phil Kessel was run out of town, Leafs fans perfected that art by doing it to Kaberle so would he really choose to spend his retirement years in the cold of Canada, in a market that pushed him out the door unceremoniously?"

So, I did what any scum of the earth person would do and try to take a picture of him on the sly to send to my friends to confirm if it really was him or just a guy pulling off a really great T-Kabs impression. I quickly moved away from the stationary section and into the kids toys area and very nonchalantly snapped a covert photo of him. As I'm looking at it his wife comes over to me and says "It's OK. You can take a picture with him if you want." I reply with "Whatever do you mean, good madame? I was merely taking a picture of this children's toy for my niece to see if she might enjoy it.... But since you mention it, that's really Tommy Kaberle???". She confirms this and then I'm all cool about it and tell them my whole life story how I'm actually a Hurricanes fan and am a big fan of his brother Frankie who scored the cup winning goal and all. We chat a bit about Toronto and Carolina. I said he should have retired down there because the weather and food is better than Toronto and he agreed but his family is here so what can you do, right?

OK, so, short story long, here's a picture of me looking like a homeless person, holding a recycling bin with Tomas Kaberle in a Dollarama. Enjoy!

Cool story man. This reminds me of the time I found out the Canadians were staying at a hotel I was at in Fort Lauder dale. So I am in the elevator on my way to the Star Bucks in the hotel and to my surprise the elevator stops at the 4th floor and in walks no other than Erik Cole. Very nice guy by the way.

 great story. Why am I not surprised this would happen to you?

Sad you don’t post too much anymore but being busy is usually a good thing.

Also, my initial reaction before looking closer was “man kaberle has an ugly wife”

LOL. Dude, for real I said the same thing to myself! I left it out of my story because it's kind of a rude thought and not really important but it was also why I was a bit hesitant to think it was actually him. Anyway, she was a good sport and super nice so a good personality can take you a long ways. Tommy K seemed like a pretty hilarious and goofy dude.

so.....get anything good at dollarama?

Just the recycling bin and some labels. I'll get a garbage can next time I go back there because that is where I deserve to live I guess.

Bless your heart.

(also, maybe go back and read Cardiac_Canes's post again)

I did. He though Kabby's wife was ugly. What am I missing?

Also, what is this blessed heart business. I DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL
