Screw the layout, but please fix the lag. Never had such frustration visiting a forum (xenforo or not).

I had a tab opened that hanged just now (using Chrome)

Whenever a tweet is embedded, it takes a few seconds to load as you scroll past it, whereas the old site they would already be displayed on the page.

everything is run by Java, and it just utterly bogs down the system. honestly - there are other sites that have these features (liking, following threads/customizing homepages) that ALSO run ads and it's less stressful than here. `

and honestly, it really makes me wonder what's the point of bringing this up because i don't even feel anything is being answered or addressed.

I think perhaps you're confusing Java and JavaScript. JavaScript is normal. I suspect the lag issue some are experiencing is just due to the ads. Hfboards has always had an excessive amount of them. I haven't seen any of the issues here but I use ublock origin

Unless they are still ironing out many bugs this is a pretty odd that they would find the site now acceptable. The site is terrible now, I can see those using it recreationally leaving.
Can you still pay? I wonder if they are trying to force everyone into paying for the privilege of a reasonable experience.

I notice when it freezes my blocker gets up near 200. For comparison it's fine now and there are only 3.

Yeah my ublock runs up around 200 ads when the site is grinding to a halt. It's an absolute joke the way this site is running right now and they really don't seem to care at all. If my browser keeps crashing from being on this site I won't be around much longer.

i would love to turn off adblock on this site, but i mean.. my other PC has it off. It was unbearable to visit this site with those ads. It seems to be worse. I'm being attacked by ads essentially. The nightmares of entire page-sized ads on the previous version of forums and auto-start videos... no thanks.

At some points you can't even post or reply, the entire site just hangs up and freezes. This lasts long enough for me to wonder if its 1999 again

Please take any issues to the support forum. Theres not really anything mods can do to alleviate your problems. Its above us.

Yep, that's terrible.

As others have begun to figure out, use uBO or disable JavaScript. Other filter extensions will half-display tweet embeds in some cases. Disabling JavaScript is not without drawbacks though. The latter will break all media embeds and the rich text editor, but also breaks all the ads too making it way more responsive. Users need to send in complaints about this to see change.
I emailed the info@ email posted on the contact us page a week or so back and have yet to hear a reply. It would annoy me that I can't use my old username "porn*" which i've had for years to go with my 40k post count.
Idk how much I'll be able to help from this side of things, but the account's still standing without the asterisk in your profile url, so maybe drop the asterisk and try the username "Porn" instead, accompanied with your password.

It feels like it's getting even worse with the lagging, freezing etc. I'm using Chrome.

So I did the unthinkable and gave the site a whirl on MS Edge and it seems to be much better. Looks like I'll have to have Edge open just for this site and Chrome for the rest of my browsing :(

Yeah, I've switched to firefox for HF browsing and it's much better. Really hope they fix the issues with chrome quick though.

I've been mucking about with Edge for about an hour now. Added ublock origin extension, no ads anymore. Added ublock on chrome to see if it would solve everything, 290 requests blocked in just a couple of minutes. I don't know what that means but on Edge there were zero requests blocked vs. 290 on the same page.

I might look into switching from Chrome permanently but you know familiarity and all, I honestly don't care what browser I use as long as I can figure out how to do things easily. Used to use Firefox until I switched my desktop with monitor to HTPC, Chrome seems to be clearer especially text on a big screen TV. Edge is looking pretty good but I think Chrome still seems better on the big screen.

Anyway, Edge with ublock origin is working flawlessly, no ads

From what I've read the website is using something called Instart Logic which tries to bypass adblockers and subsequently, dramatically slows down the browser. Apparently, this is only for chrome though and other browsers seem to be unaffected.

Something you might notice is that when you load an HF page on chrome, the url will have something like "g00" inserted in it. That's because of Instart Logic. This doesn't seem on happen on other browsers, however.

Either way, HF really needs to fix this. They're going to make people leave the site if they keep this up.
