It seems to me that a lot of the 80's/90's cards dropped in price or are still the same from 15 years ago.

That's true of the 90's cards and late 80's cards, but the early 80's have appreciated somewhat depending upon the year (see 85-86 OPC with Roy's rookie card ... the set has more $$$ value today than 15 years ago).

I have a bunch of cards. I have cards from the 60's and on up. These two are probably the most expensive in my collection I stopped collecting it got to expensive. The Roy one was worth I think $600 a few years ago I'm not sure about now though. The Howe card I could never find the value of all the ones I have seen were red the one I have is yellow. I think it's rare but I am not 100% sure I know the red version I believe was $60 about the time it came out. I would guess the Roy card is probably still worth alot. I have a bunch of signed cards also the only bad part is that I kind of misplaced them for the moment.

I don't know which card is more valuable, my Bobby Orr rookie card or my Ed Belfour 1/1 card. I have a whole bunch of $25-50 priced cards. I even have some cards from the 50s, but none are of the stars of that era. I do have one Gordie Howe card, in Mint condition, but I have not got it priced. I have cards of almost the entire Montreal Canadians, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets teams of 70s. My most valuable recent rookie is a Patrice Bergeron rookie valued at $25. I also have a Scott Gomez rookie, a Boumeester rookie, and a Brodeur rookie, but I have not gotten them priced.

i would bet on Bobby... last time i checked the guides, it was 3500$. could be more today.

I recently saw a 1 of 1 of Mario Lemieux sell for 200$ at a show in Montreal.

the 1 of 1's are nice too but not comparable to Orr rookie.

Doesn't anybody have stuff like Gretzky, Orr, Sawchuk and Howe rookies. The pics that have been posted are all recent stuff, we can see that anywhere.

Somebody post photos of some true gems.

I also have a peter forsberg rookie somewhere I didn't go through all my cards I knew where most of my old cards were. I think I also have a mike bossy signed card somewhere. I got a bunch of the older cards when I was in Canada a few years ago. I think I spent $50 in Canadian for a bunch of cards the signed Bossy card I think it was ( I can't remember the player) was worth $25 so I got lucky there. Not all these are rookies but some are older cards or just somewhat unusual cards.

yeah, hopefully it jumps up in price after he is retired or a few years after that. I quit collecting in I think 1999 or 2000 but I got lucky enough to get a few cards that are worth alot.

I have a Forsberg rookie (prospect card) too!

Yeah, its difficult to make a profit collecting cards. I got my Orr rookie for four dollars off an online auction, and that pretty much offsets any of my losses.

I wonder how much a Brodeur rookie is worth? Not much, I would imagine.

A few years ago a card store was selling a graded "9.5" Gordie Howe rookie for $300! They were also selling a Gretzky rookie for 800; they probably thought it was more valuable because they actually knew who Gretzky was. Kinda sad that I didn't buy the Howe...

I actually have Guy Lafleur and Bobby Hull rookie cards, but they are in such bad shape that they aren't worth very much. It is really terrible what poor condition can do to a card's value.

Yeah I got the Plante and Gretzky card off of EBay. I also have a Gordie Howe card from 1969-1970 it was supposed to be in good condition but when I received it it wasn't in that good condition. The middle of the card has somehow worn down and it was in pretty bad condition. I started collecting the I believe it was the Pacific Private stock when they came out. I can't remember the price of the pack but it was pretty expensive anyway I ended up buying a box and didn't really get anything out of it. I know I got a Lindros jersey card this was after he was traded but I don't think it was worth that much.

I'm not sure. I have a couple and I think one was worth $30 but that was a few years ago.

Here you will see a Paul Coffey RC, a Messier 2nd year from the same set and although recent, a Mario Lemieux autographed card from 04-05 ITG Heroes and Prospects.

The cards on my page are my Top 8. I have some more nice cards, which I will eventually upload, but not at 12:30am. Here are some notes that go with them...

Mario Lemieux signed: No real story, but it made a boring day at work very exciting (I work in a mall, so I regularly head over to the hobby shop on slow days).

NHL Generations (Selanne, Koivu, O.Jokinen jerseys): Again, this cured my boredom at work...as it should anytime you pull something with odds of 1:288 packs.

Matti Hagman and Vladislav Tretiak signed: I bought three packs, and in two of them, these cards came out.

J.Jokinen signed RC jersey: I bought one pack, today as a matter of fact, and this beauty jumped out at me. I've looked on eBay, and although this card isn't selling much, everything I saw on eBay had a solid 1-colour jersey. I struck oil (lame obvious Texas reference) with this 3-colour jersey card.

Coffey RC and Messier: I was 7 years old when I got these. I gave the other kid a 90-91 Lemieux card, which is probably worth a quarter today, and something else I can't remember, so it wasn't big.... and he gave me these two cards in return. I went inside, looked at my Beckett and said, "HOLY S*** MOM, THIS CARD (Coffey RC) IS WORTH $80!" Sadly, Coffey's RC is still worth that today....mine isn't though. It obviously isn't near mint condition, but it's not in piss poor shape either.

Pavel Bure RC: This is by far and wide my favourite card. The set came out when I was 6 years old, and it took a couple years for Pavel Bure to really make his mark. I was about 8 years old when the card shop near my apartment had it, but the guy was selling it for $30, which was market value for it then, and naturally, my mother would have none of it. Last year, the hobby shop in the mall got a few boxes of the set, so of course I bought one. The first pack I opened ended my 13 year attempt to find my Pavel Bure RC. I don't care if Beckett lists it at $4 US, unless you're going to clear my debts, you're not getting it off my hands.

is the real Bure RC the one with him in the Russian jersey, or him posing in the rollerblades?

nevermind, saw your pics

I have that card too. :) I used to collect a ton when I was 12-15, and I still buy a few cards from time to time.

I bought a Kevin Bieksa signed RC, not worth much but he is one of my favourites.

The main focus of my collection has always been Ray Bourque (hence my post above)

Recently I've started to collect HHOF Defensemen - trying to get the RC of all of the members of the HHOF Dept of Defense, and if they've got them - a certified Auto of them...

Now I've just started looking at this project more seriously, so there's not much to write home about yet, but...

1951-52 Parkhurst Emile Bouchard RC
1952-53 Parkhurst Leo Boivin RC

1980-81 OPC Rod Langway RC
1970-71 OPC Serge Savard RC
1971-72 OPC Brad Park RC
1971-72 OPC Guy Lapointe RC

Still quite a ways to go... but this project is pretty fun, I must say! It'll keep me busy for a while - that's for sure!

I hate to say it, but unless that Orr is graded (by one of the big-3, no-less) I'd be willing to bet my life that it's a reprint. Virtually all Orr RC's on EBay, etc. that aren't graded are RP's...

You may want to send it to Beckett to have it authenticated.

I collected for about 2-3 years from early 2000 to the lockout after a long hiatus. Had some decent luck during my time, spent way more money than I wanted, but it was fun. I don't plan on selling them. I just like being able to open up my box of stuff every once in a while and look back on things. I'm at work now so I can't remember a lot of what I have, but some of my favorites are:

BAP Ultimate Memorabila Emblem Attics Aurel Joliat/5
BAP Ultimate Memorabilia Finals Showdown Lemieux/Modano
(Went to the National Convention in AC one year...bought my only super high value box)
03/04 SPA Sign of the Times Triple Nash/Spezza/Zetterberg
Topps Heritage Original 6 Arenas Stadium Card /55
I have a bunch more stuff but I really can't remember offhand...some of my favorites is game-used stuff from Whalers players (UD Shanny Card)
But I have since started working at Meigray so for the money I was spending on cards I now can set aside for some game used jerseys. Picked up a sweet James Patrick Rangers gamer from the 88-89 season, and Gary Galley Playoff jersey in the old style white uniform photo matched to the last game they wore that jersey style.
Sorry for rambling on...haven't had a chance to talk about some of my stuff in a while so it all just came out.

Just picked up a very rare Antero Niittymaki emblem from ITG/BAP...it's the Silver version but instead of being numbered out of 30, it's numbered out of 10.

Current RC's? Definitely: SP Authentic, UD Premier, and SPx (pick and choose what order they go in...) - That's if you're looking for the "best" rookie cards to get (i.e - the most valuable)

If you're looking for the big guns (namely Crosby / Ovechkin for this year, and guys like Staal, Nash, Kovalchuk, Spezza, etc for the past few years) - be prepared to be shocked.

If you're looking for cards that are a little more reasonably priced, try Upper Deck Young Guns, and the new Ultra (still called "Fleer Ultra, but made by Upper Deck)

For reference - on EBay right now, there's a Crosby SPx Auto/Jsy RC with a white swatch (the most common and least desireable color) - end in 21 hours and is up to $635.00... The Crosby Young Guns are hovering between, say $75-110... The Ultras are at a similar clip: $70-100

When the SP Authentic stuff comes out, and then especially when the UD Premier comes out... Yow. That stuff will be insane for the big guns...
