No thanks.

We could him someone like him.
We won't pay what he's worth.
That contract is quite long.

That Weber contract would cripple any chances at contention we could muster during Eichel/Dahlin primes. That's why this trade is bad. Not because Weber is bad or the value is bad.

Weber to Buffalo and Eichel in must trial. But one of Eichel AND Ristolainen I want to Seattle.

Just a hunch, but if Eichel and Risto are on the sabres then, they will both be protected in the expansion draft. Lol

Sabres < Weber

Habs < Bogosian, Girgensons, 2019 1st, Sharks' 2019 1st

Buffalo gets a capable veteran star to lead their young team to the next level

Montreal sheds Weber's long term contract while adding a pair of 1st round picks, plus some warm bodies which could potentially be flipped at the deadline for additional long term assets
We are rebuilding and won’t really try to get much better until next year. Our GM won't even buy out any of the terrible players this year just to save future cap space.
I’d be willing to give up a second round pick for Weber. You’d be better of trading him to a team that is trying to win.

How many future picks are honestly more valuable than the Sabres 2019 first at this point? They never score, have no wingers coming, have no goalie and their defense was the worst I’ve ever seen.

That pick isn’t moving.

Weber AND Ristolainen in deal ??

Not worth it. Weber is still a good player, just the contract is so long. We'd get a good defenseman for 2-3 years then be stuck with one of the league's worst contracts for however long it goes after that.
to be fair, even if Weber's retiring early, BUF would not be the one stuck with the recapture (NAS) and it's not a 35+ contract so, all money would come off the book. I see that deal as very beneficial for BUF's rebuild process, in condition that they acquire a goaltender ASAP but yes the OP would need some tweaking and I see Weber retiring at the end of 2022/23

It’s a simple no and it’s all the contract!

7.8 million for 7 more years and he’s 32!

That’s an awful buyout needed in 4 years and his production could decline any year now.

Even retaining some salary doesn’t make up for the massive term left in that deal.

I can’t think of any way to make this work.

It baffles my mind how people continue to put their head in the sand regarding what Weber's contract does to his trade value.

As a habs fan, I'd love this trade, unfortunately this isn't NHL18 and the sabres wouldn't do such a stupid move. Only Chiarelli or BargainBin would.

Sabres would be giving away waaaay too much, it would be more realistic if it were say Bogosian and Sharks 1st for Weber and a 2nd rounder or something like that.

You could easily trade him back to Nashville due to his cap recapture penalty on them if he's anywhere close to retiring.

Or you could pretend he's contemplating retirement and trade him to Nashville anyways, it's not like the Nashville GM can ask him if it's true that he's retiring since it would be tempering I imagine. But then again players talk and they could probs find out its not true.

If only we could delete the posts from people who don't understand how Weber's contract actually works so we could have an actual discussion on the topic.

As a Sharks fan, I would have done Vlasic for the SJ 1st, Buf 1st proposal. That Buffalo 2019 first is an unknown for sure but it still holds quite a bit of value. I might do Burns as well.

EDIT: Removed the 2 first round picks, included Alex Nylander instead

HAH, no! Weber is in the midst of an extremely back loaded contract that covers an extreme amount of time 25-26. This is TERRIBLE. We're rid of Bogosian in two years. There is no chance under the sun that this makes sense for the Sabres. We're also giving up a prospect who just needs more time in Nylander. Not in any rush to help Montreal with ANYTHING.

You wanted a pair of 1st round picks for a declining asset in Weber who's coming off major surgery and is 33..signed through 2025-26. That's rich. This is by far the WORST I've seen yet between Montreal and Buffalo. We're REBUILDING, I'm not sure where your lack of common sense went.
