Double edged sword: on one hand it sucks for Weber and it could also give Bergy the excuse.... but on the other it increases our chances of a top pick

Shea Weber will see a foot specialist later this week. Expected to have surgery this summer and is expected to miss the first few months of next season as per TSN radio.

At 33 Weber still has 9 years left on his contract.

Nice trade Bergevin.

This report 2 days ago is correct. Weber our for the season with surgery and until Christmas next season. Ouch.

The just better not use that excuse at all during the press conference.

Nice trade Bergevin.

He is easily tradable in 4 years. he'll have 5 millions in salary in TOTAL with an annual 7.8 in cap for his last 4 years.

I guess we'll have to wait another season for Bergevin's big trade to pay dividends.

There goes any hope of finishing 10th in the East.

He's going to miss months of next season too?!

The medical and training staff needs to be included in the management purge when this regime finally topples. Between this, Carey Price this year, and Carey Price in 2015/16 they're hugely negligent.

It will be brought up more than once when MB speaks at the end of the season if he's not fired.

MB: Not many teams can lose a top NHL defenseman like Shea from their team and be successful.
Media: What about the Pens last season in the playoffs without Letang Bergy?

He was injured at the opening game season... so for sure this will be used as an excuse

When he was acquired, most said that Weber's body would give up ahead of Subban's.....So whether it has to do with his body, bad luck or whatever, he still can't use Weber's absence as it would look bad on him....as if he needs that.

They did not have to match it if they didn't want to.

They were losing Ryan Suter to UFA no matter what as he wanted to go to his hometown and knew he was going to get payed. Both Weber and Suter were considered two of the best defenceman in the game at the time. Losing two defenceman of that caliber in one offseason would’ve been a disaster. You don’t see offersheets often, much less 15 year/$100 million dollar deals. There’s no doubt that was a very tough decision and it’s worked out great for them. As far as cap recapture, it’s still uncertain what will happen. There’s still ways for them out of it.
