He’s a healthy scratch with a multi-year $6.65M contract, and you expect him to return a 1st and two decent prospects?

Yikes.

Agreed. Shattenkirk is far from the type of D man the Leafs need and he is way overpaid too!
McQuaid Claesson, Staal???
Wouldn't take much to get either of the first two. If you take Staal, we will hand deliver him to Toronto with the promise that he will resurrect his career, just like his brother, once he exits MSG!

rumor is shatty is getting healthy scratched. The rangers are rebuilding and would probably just like to move on at this point. while shattenkirk isnt the defensive minded guy the leafs probably need, he would still be an upgrade. He would also give a big jolt to the 2nd unit PP (Marleau-Nylander- Johnsson- Gardiner-Shattenkirk)

Leafs: Shattenkirk
Rangers: 2019 1st rd pick, Borgman, Timashov

The Leafs need a guy that’s great defensivly...Shattenkirk ain’t it.

He is likely scratched tonight for a game, lets not pretend he is going to be sitting for weeks or even days on end unless injured. This does not effect his trade value at this point.

I would love Shattenkirk.

If Gardiner walks as a UFA after this season, that is. As of now, for this season, he would be too much of what we already have. He brings an element that, if anything, Toronto has too much of.

Yep, in a non salary cap league...

they have the space this year. gardiner and hainsey walk freeing up 7+ and marleau is moved freeing up another 6.25

Cap probably going up 3-5 mil, they could fit him

he's a PP specialist and that's one of the last things the Leafs need. Astounded this was made by a Leafs fan. 6.65M cap hit and need to sign Nylander, Matthews and Marner, how is this going to work?

12 mil space

+

Gardiner and Hainsey walk
Marleau is moved to a cap floor team
Horton to LTIR when they are close to cap limit
=30.5 mil

Nylander 6.75
Matthews 11
Marner 8.25
shatty 6.65
= 32.65

they are a couple mil short but the cap is gonna be 83mil ish. maybe ask the rangers to eat 1.5-2, especially if he is just gonna be scratched

Have you heard of Matthews and Marner? Leafs can't be taking on bad contracts right now, especially for a guy they don't need.

Shattenkirk has zero value right now. He needs alot more time to show he can recover from his knee problems, otherwise he'll be quickly entering Wade Redden territory.

I still don't get the Shattenkirk hype, never did. He's a great tool in PP, but not a legit #1D. How will Toronto even manage to get under the cap if they add him? I just don't see him as a great fit.
He is not even legit #2 Dman parayko passed him up his rookie year. But got 50+ points

and who do you replace Gardiner and Marleau with? Assuming Shatty is your replacement for Hainsey. And Marleau ddoes have a NMC, why waive when you're on a potential SC contender?

OP didnt have any mention of retained salary so that changes it a bit obviously. Doubt they'd eat 2M per year without more coming back though.

I presume you forgot to mention that Shatty is 50% retained?
