Today Sharks GM Billy Boquist held a press conference to announce the club had parted ways with team captain John LecLair. The deal breaks down as follows:
To SJS: L. Krajicek, D. Shvidki, M. Balmochnykh, M. Grier, K. Korneev, LAK 3rd 2004
To LAK: J. LecLair, M. Zalesak, C. Backman, NYI 6th 2004, S. Kelly
The GM said the following about the deal:
"Giving up John LecLair was extremely hard for the organization. In his three years in a Sharks uniform John has been nothing short of spectacular and his loss is something the team will likely never fill. John was part of my first major deal in the HFNHL and myself and this organization are forever indebted to John for the role he played in our cup win two seasons ago. It is unlikely for teams to make major deals with teams in their conference but we really wanted to give John the opportunity to play for a cup contender. We had to realize that this is a business and it was no longer fiscally possible to hold onto John. However, don't be surprised if after we turn this ship around financially we make an offer when he becomes a free agent after next season. We really wish John all the best in LA and hope he can perform at the level he did here.
As for the players coming back our way we are very high on Krajicek and believe that he along with Trevor Daley will be the future anchors of our powerplay. We have liked Shvidki for a long time as well and feel there is still alot of potential in the kid. Grier will be a very nice addition to our checking line. All said although the deal is one we would have avoided if possible we are happy with the return."
In other news around Sharktown it is believed the Sharks are extremely close to pulling off a massive trade. No word yet on the specifics but inside sources have commented that the trade sees over 10 players swap homes. The Sharks have scheduled a news conference for Wednesday to address these rumors.
