Mikhail Sergachev

2016-17 Montreal Canadiens NHL 4 0 0 0 0

Montreal is hurting for a legit 1st line center and Brown has all the tools to make that happen. Size, speed, creativity and a booming shot.

Ottawa has a *lot* of centers in the pipeline and could be potentially fielding both Chabot and Sergachev in the near future.

Ignoring that it's a trade with a divisional rival, who says no?

MTL says no. They need a first line center next season, not for the future. Sergachev can make that happen for them, but Brown's not the guy they want.

As it stands right now, Sergachev is a better bet to become a #1 defenseman than Brown is to be come a #1 center. Also has the higher floor of the two.

Habs decline.

If the Habs wanted Brown over Sergy, they would have simply drafted him.

Ottawa apparently tried to leap frog MTL in the draft to get Sergachev so I am guessing if their current assessment of both players is similar to their assessment last year, they'd accept this trade.

Value obviously favors MTL.

But OTT needs that #1C upside more then then #1D upside of Sergavhev, so I think theyd pass as well..

Serg has higher value to me as a prospect going back to his draft year. I've been pretty negative to Logan Brown since his draft year as evidenced by my post history.

Neutral fan who would value Serg a decent bit more than Brown. MTL passes pretty easily imo

Brown hasn't raised his stock since the draft so it's tough to have the should have gone higher argument.

Sergachev has regressed as well. Neither looks like a good pick at the moment. Chychrun went below both these players. Unbelievable.

I'm unclear as to why people say that.
His ppg went up, so did his differential. And if I remember correctly, that's after a somewhat slow start after being sent back to juniors.

So where's the regression ?
I'm genuinely asking here, not trying to be a wise-ass.
