At this stage, I've decided to only do tiebreakers if it's an actual tie since voting numbers and options have decreased. Shore was only one vote ahead of Summers, Guptill and Wolanin, but that's enough. Otherwise we're going to have tiebreakers after every remaining vote.

Where the Cup is
At this time I would like to thank
SensBrawler for taking the time to do this ranking of the Sens' prospects......................

During the dog days of hockey in the summer as I call them, when there is very little going on in the game.... It helps to keep my mind on the game a little bit and makes the time go faster.........

I still say this is a hard way to rank the prospects as we have some players who have played 3 yrs in Binghamton on 1 end, on the other end we have brand new 18 yr olds just drafted in June.

Let's be honest Ottawa draft picks are overrated on this blog I am guilty of it also. As we want the draft picks to move right up to Ottawa and become good NHL players.. So that makes it hard to rank all the players..... But it keeps our minds busy during the summer.....

I voted for C Wolanin this time........

Guptill and Baillargeon shoud be voted here, the rest don't have much upside, even if they succeed. I don't see any of them having more than a cup on coffee in the NHL (maybe I am underrating Wolanin, don't have any viewings on him)

Hey Zeke how are you, hope you had a great summer

I don't entirely agree on this, because it depends which prospects you are talking about. Some posters are also scared to overrate prospects, so overall I don't think we are over the board here, compared to other places (humhum Habs and Leafs boards)

For example, Stone, Hoffman, Wideman, Karlsson, even Zibanejad (half and half) etc were underated. Others like Cowen, Regin, Petersson (for my part, 3 guys I personally overrated) were overrated. I thought Hoffman wouldn't get more than a cup of coffee in the NHL, I haven't joined the hype on Hammond yet, etc. We have our favorites so it really goes both ways IMO.

The actual Sens prospect pool is very underrated IMO. Wait after this season and it will become more clear. To me, Sens drafting team under Murray have proven themselves, it's impressive what they have done based on WHERE they end up picking. Do we need to make the list of all the players the Sens have been producing since 2008? It's freaking amazing, because it's only beginning. Only 8 drafts and it takes about 5 years to start having a clear picture of what your draft looks like...

Erik Karlsson, Patrick Wiercioch, Zack Smith, Mark Borowiecki, Jared Cowen, Jakob Silfverberg, Robin Lehner, Mike Hoffman, Mark Stone, Mika Zibanejad, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Cody Ceci, Curtis Lazar and even cup-of-coffee Derek Grant

Chris Wideman, Matt Puempel, Stefan Noesen, Shane Prince, Fredrik Claesson, Max McCormick, Ryan Dzingel, Mikael Wikstrand, Chris Driedger also have a decent to good chance to become NHL regulars. And I won't even talk about the last 3 drafts because it's too recent... Ton of good prospects there too.

And let's not forget big assets were used to get 2 stars players : Kyle Turris and Bobby Ryan (a 2nd, a 1st + Silfverberg, Rundblad and Noesen)

IMO, there's only 3 drafts we have a clear picture of what we got :

2008 Entry 15 1 Erik Karlsson D Frolunda Jrs (Sweden) 397 84 219 303 202
2008 Entry 42 2 Patrick Wiercioch D Omaha Lancers [USHL] 159 12 45 57 91
2008 Entry 79 3 Zack Smith C Swift Current Broncos [WHL] 319 39 39 78 417
2008 Entry 109 4 Andre Petersson R HV 71 Jrs. (Sweden) 1 0 0 0 0
2008 Entry 119 4 Derek Grant C Langley Chiefs [BCHL] 25 0 2 2 4
2008 Entry 139 5 Mark Borowiecki D Smiths Falls Bears [CJHL] 84 2 10 12 175
2008 Entry 199 7 Emil Sandin L Brynas IF Gavle [SEL]

2009 Entry 9 1 Jared Cowen D Spokane Chiefs [WHL] 212 15 27 42 158

2009 Entry 146 5 Jeff Costello L Cedar Rapids RoughRiders [USHL]
2009 Entry 160 6 Corey Cowick L Ottawa 67's [OHL]
2009 Entry 190 7 Brad Peltz L Avon Old Farms H.S. (Conn.)
2009 Entry 191 7 Michael Sdao D Lincoln Stars [USHL]

Via Trade (1st round pick) : Kyle Turris
2010 Entry 76 3 Jakub Culek L Rimouski Oceanic [QMJHL]
2010 Entry 106 4 Marcus Sorensen R Sodertalje Jr. [Sweden]
2010 Entry 178 6 Mark Stone R Brandon Wheat Kings [WHL] 103 30 42 72 20
2010 Entry 196 7 Bryce Aneloski D Cedar Rapids RoughRiders [USHL]

THAT'S EXCELLENT if you ask me and the 2011 already looks very good, it will probably a top-3/5 draft in the club history

2011 Entry 6 1 Mika Zibanejad C Djurgardens IF Stockholm [SEL] 200 43 57 100 46
2011 Entry 21 1 Stefan Noesen R Plymouth Whalers [OHL] 1 0 0 0 0

That's surprising especially with the last draft adding two consensus first round picks and two consensus seconds. Its actually dumbfounding that they have the sens that low. I rarely champion the sens as the best drafting team in the league but they pretty easily ahead a few teams off the top of my head.

I'm reading the article lmao.....they said we got a meager return for elliot. If we didnt acquire anderson or a similar tier goalie we would probably not of made the playoffs in any of the recent years.

... What?!?

When we traded him, Elliott was worth two things:

1) dick
2) squat

.... and it was hard, at the time, to believe we would even get the "squat" back in return for him. He was one of the worst goalies in the league. The fact that we got Anderson is, quite frankly, ridiculous. In a good way. For us.

I can't even begin, to fathom, to comprehend, to imagine the idea that there is someone out there who both:
a) thinks we "sold low" on Brian Elliott, and
b) graduated highschool

How have you been as I recall you were in Mexico for awhile....... Me doing SOSO I am not real fond of heat & humidity anymore, but for an old fart doing OK, hope all is well with you and the family......

What you do NOT agree 100% with me how dare you LAUGHING :laugh::laugh:

Well being honest you could be right and I could be wrong happens to us all.......

As for Stone yes I under rated him, 1st he could not skate he proved me wrong on that, 2nd he was too fragile to play up top again he proved me wrong, he has worked to become a dam good NHL player.. I am glad I was wrong and for a 6th round pick I am overjoyed I will be happy to be proven wrong anytime for a player to make it to Ottawa and play top 6..................

Mike Hoffman I always liked him in fact in 2010-2011 he made a great play to score a goal to tie the game with the goalie pulled he showed me something on that play... I commented on it here and said it might take 2-3 yrs but he could be a player up top, I am happy for Mike.....

Wideman yes underated I agree but he has a chance to make it up top + I like him he has grown on me....

Karlsson kid is in a league of his own I just wonder how much better he would be IF possible had he not got injured still pisses me off........ So I do not think he was under rated.......

As for Zibby I think he was overated myself but both times I saw him play down here he was injured. I did see potential in the kid.......

Yes Regin was over rated but he came at weak time of prospects, Petersson yes I liked him kid had great skills, but lacked toughness I wanted to see him make it as man he used to get pounded on down here. Kid kept coming back for more..... Cowen yes I hyped him too darn much, I thought and still hope he can become a good player.....

Hammond I never saw the Hammond you did up top, not even close, so am happy for him and the Sens, keep it up.......

Well I think on this blog here the prospects are over rated but that is me...... On other blogs the Sens are very much underated big time.... I kind of seems that Ottawa is treated like the red haired step child nobody wants or will give any credit to...... Ottawa is NOT a cap team not even close + they can't sign the big free agents.. Therefore we have to continue to draft well and develop these draft picks well down here in Binghamton for Ottawa that is crucial for Ottawa to compete........... GM B. Murray has put a great scouting dept together and it shows by the draft picks they have made......

Ottawa does in my view have a good prospect pool let's develop them so they can push for jobs up top..........

Yes the Sens did trade away prospects and picks the 1 that hurt was last yr the #10 overall went to the Ducks for that monster forward but that's hockey................................

You certainly did your homework on your reply to me, take care Xspyrit, and be well..........................

Hi Zeke, thanks for asking, I have been great, lot of things happening but if you learn the lessons it becomes good in the end. I am back to Montreal now and I am building many things here, so I should be here for good.

Stone, I underrated him, thought he was going to be a player, but as good as fast? lol no. Hoffman, the guy I underrated the most. Thought he would be a cup of coffee guy. Wideman, he is probably going to play and didn't really see him coming.

By Karlsson underrated I mean even people who were huge on him, no one expected that would be almost a PPG D-man and would won Norrises. I thought he was goingto be real good, but that good? Impossible!

Concerning Zibanejad, he was overrated but only by a few posters. Many were really underrated him though, saying how we made a mistake to not pick up Couturier, etc. It was an annoying debate to be honest and I remember how much Moo and myself had to defend Mika. I mean the kid was young, raw and needed time. His skillset though was undeniable. Funny thing is that he is still raw. Still a lot of untapped potential. That's why he was underrated

Regin was overrated but at the same time it was real. He could have succeeded if it was not for injuries. Many were seeing a too high potential though, but he could have been a great 2way 2nd line center or an elite 3rd line center. Personally, I saw him as what his buddy Frans Nielsen is today. Unfortunately it didn't pan out

Petersson, lol this is the prospect I overrated the much in history. His skillset was just so good, the way he was able to keep possession and stickhandle in traffic, make wise plays. His shot, skating, passing, everything was there but ultimately I think he lacked fire and desire... Hard to say

Cowen is really not whee I though he'd be by now, but I think it's mostly due to big injuries step back. Hopefully, he can heal entirely from those and become the player I saw him becoming, which is somewhere between Coburn and Seabrook. But unfortunately I don't think he'll reach that potential now because too much lost development at the worst time.

Hammond, even up top I thought it was mostly luck. I remember goalies like Jim Carey or Andrew Raycroft, short term champions. I don't think Hammond will become an elite goalie in the NHL like Tim Thomas did, he doesn't have what it takes IMO. Hopefully, he does a good job as a back-up for us but I am not super confident.

Finally, I am not super high on Ritchie and the 2014 draft in general so for me, doesn't matter at all what we gave up for Bobby Ryan. It was the perfect timing for that kind of move. I am actually hoping we could pull off another one soon, because we have enough quantity for that, but you can always improve the quality...

Take care and have a great season!
