Here's the return I'm aiming for :

- Pageau: a 2nd round pick
- Smith: a 3rd round pick
- Oduya: a 4th or 5th round pick
- Thompson: a 5th round pick (in retrospect I'm not sure he's going to get traded)

Am I off base? Overly optimistic or pessimistic?

Pageau and Smith trades are pretty bad. I'd do the Oduya and Thompson trades in a heartbeat.

My guess is that PD will only be able to move 1 to 3 players before the deadline but like others I would prefer to see about a dozen of them traded.

1. Dumont - 7th rd pick, likely won't get anything for him
2. DiDomenico - 6th rd pick, likely won't get anything for him
3. Burrows - 5th rd pick. likely won't be able to trade him because he has another yr left
4. Oduya - 4th rd pick, might be able to move him
5. Thompson - 4th rd pick. likely won't be able to trade him because he has another yr left
6. Wideman - 3rd rd pick, likely won't be able to move him since he's injured
7. Pyatt - 4th rd pick, it's likely GB won't allow Pyatt to be traded
8. Phaneuf - 2nd rd pick, it's likely to hefty a contract to move or Ottawa won't take a bad contract back
9. Pageau - 1st rd pick or top prospect
10. Anderson - 1st rd pick, likely won't get moved for various reasons including what he's been through
11. Claesson - 3rd rd pick, likely won't get moved this yr but maybe next, he's valuable depth
12. Condon - 4th rd pick, likely won't get moved, he makes too much for a mediocre backup
13. Every UFA in the organization & all of the vets in Belleville for anything.
14. Guy Boucher - for a better coach
15. Pierre Dorion - for a better GM with managerial experience running a good sports franchise.

Totally agree with all of this.

And then th Sens tank next season and give Colorado a lottery pick?

Why would they do this?

That's fair. I don't think you flip guys like Smith, Pageau, and Ceci for best pick offered or anything. Ceci in particular is someone I'd want moved because I have the perception (wrong or not) that his value around the league might be higher than what he actually brings to the table. I'm not a big fan, so I'd explore a hockey trade that brings in another player who can help next year.

The others I see fitting into two general categories:

Get what you can because their absence won't hurt next year
Oduya
Burrows
Thompson
Condon

Useful players who should be dumped if the opportunity arises, because their contracts greatly exceed their contributions
Phaneuf
Ryan
Anderson

I think the latter group will remain, because I don't think they're movable without eating salary, taking bad contracts in return, or paying prospect pick capital. But in the unlikely event that a team actually wants one, I think you jump at the opportunity and worry about replacing them next year later on.

If Hoffman is off the table (and he ought to be) we don't have much in terms of quality to move outside of Pageau and maybe Smith.

Interesting situation we find ourselves in.

Moving Ryan and Phaneuf would be the top priority (yes, I know it's almost impossible).

Pageau is too much of a fan favorite and playoff warrior to move for magic beans. Only way I'd move him is for a top 10 pick or real blue chipper prospect (aka, Chabot/McAvoy level if this was last year).

Ceci is an interesting case. RD are hard to find, and I do like the player....but his next contract is a big worry. Dude is a 3.5 mil player at maximum. Paying him more than that is a mistake we can't afford to make. At the same time, if we were to move him, we would need a legit second pairing blueliner coming back (likely in a different trade).

Condon has it in him to be better than we've seen this year. And goalies return squat in trades, so no real use trying to move him.

Smith, Burrows, Oduya...like virtually everyone has said, can go for whatever.

Keep Brassard. The concept of relying on Brown to be the 2C next season is too risky.

I think a team desperate like Pittsburgh might throw a first for Pageau. Maybe they would give up Jarry for Pageau straight, and that will fill a huge huge hole for the future.

I'd move Ceci for Hall, but it would be pending owner's approval...

Not expecting any big moves from us.

Claesson for late pick, replace with Harpur
Condon for late pick(sign khudobin in off season)
Thompson for late pick(replaced by Brown/chlapik next year)
Oduya waived.
Burrows waived.

Getting rid of Phaneuf & Ryan should be the priority.

Also the hardest guys to move.

Oh, and anyone who thinks we can move Andy is living in a dream world.

Andy, Condon, Burrows, Ryan and Phaneuf I move if I can, but they are the toughest to move on this team.

On an island
Players with significant value:
Pageau, Smith, Brassard, Ceci, (wouldn't trade him personally)

Players with close to no value:
Phaneuf, Oduya, Burrows, Ryan, Pyatt, Thompson

I expect Smith, Thompson, and Oduya to be dealt.

Why waive Oduya? We could get a late pick for him maybe. Better than nothing.

Wouldn’t move Claesson for a late pick. He can bounce back next year.

So assuming we manage to trade Smith and Oduya for picks, that we stay pat in the off-season, and that we still have Boucher as a steak-averse coach next year we have:

Hoff - Duchene - White
Ryan - Brassard - Stone
Dzingel - Pageau - Pyatt
DiDo - Thompson - Burrows
McCormick, Dumont (what's Paajarvi's status after this season?)

(AHL reserve: Chlapik, Brown, Batherson, Gagne?)

Chabot - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Ceci
Boro - Claesson (and maybe they manage to re-sign Wideman?)
Harpur

(AHL reserve: Jaros, Englund)

Anderson
Condon

(AHL reserve: Driedger, Hogberg)

There's also whoever we pick in the 1st round to account for somewhere...

To be honest, I'd trade anyone but Hoffman, Karlsson and Stone (I know you didn't list Stone). These three plus our younger guys (Brown, White, Chabot ect) is what we should build around, imo. I'm definitely no expert though

Assuming Oduya wouldn't get any offers, if we can get anything for him great.

Harpur's all around game is better than Claesson.
