Scheif is essentially the face of the franchise now right? Pretty much everything you would want in a franchise player. First 1st round pick in 2011, Legit #1C, signed long term on a reasonable contract, hard worker, well spoken, ambassador for the community, baby blue eyes. It's impossible to not love Mark Scheifele.

sure it is.
1. Winnipeg reverse discount i.e. the "rumour" is that we need to overpay to re-sign players. this isn't an overpay
2. other players are 6 year deals. Scheifele's giving us 2 more years at a discount (assuming the cap will only go up)
3. 2 of the players didn't sign this offseason. so he got last year dollars this year
4. Edmonton would also have to give the reserve discount
