Saves me money and I can keep the A on my Kovy jersey.

Gotta make my blank a 27 and strip my 9 eventually. Give Boucher 9 lou. Do it

I didn't say Stevens was a dyed-in-the-wool Devil when he became the captain, but it was later proven to be a good call - he spent a dozen years here, won three cups here, had his number retired here, and he's still here.

Since Stevens in '92, every captain we've had has had a solid claim to having their number retired. Sal won't. He wasn't even an alternate last year. It's stupid. Say what you want about Zach being a traitor, but he was in the organization for a decade and came up through our system. Home grown. Great player. Had already been an alternate. We made it to the finals. It was a good choice.

Certainly not Langenbrunner and Parise.

I'm not sure what you're getting at, because you seem to be arguing two different points. Are you saying this is a bad pick because the captain should be someone who has spent a long time here, or are you saying the measure of a good captain is how far you go in the finals?

And yes, Salvador did wear the 'A' last season at times, as mentioned above.

I never said they will have their numbers retired, but Zach and Langenbrunner definitely deserve consideration, which was my point. Sal doesn't. He's just a good player who happens to be a good guy and might be finishing his career here.

Salvador has already been an alternate too.

Langenbrunner was not home grown nor even up for number retirement.

You're grasping at straws for reasons to discount Salvador in the face of everything his teammates, his coach and Lou are saying.

Oh for Christ's sake people get over it, bunch of petulant little children. Just iron on a "C" on your Kovy jersey if it makes you feel better.

The only people that are whining about this are that Kovalchuk Army poster and the guy who agreed with him, I guess(iiTzLaMia, I think).

Which is funny because Kovy will eventually get the 'C' after Sal retires which isn't that far off....

^ I'm still wondering why a Devils fan would call himself "KING"-anything. :sarcasm:

But I digress.....Saturday CAN'T come soon enough for me as well.

If that's how you feel, you must be crossing your fingers for Larsson to get the captaincy cause he looks half dead 90% of the time

Langenbrunner was a terrible **** captain. ******* Sutter should have never stripped Patty. We never even won a series with Langenbrunner in 3 years, but we won one with Patty in just a year.

Langenbrunner was also one of the main reasons we collapsed late in 09/10, and carrying into 10/11. Since he's been gone we've had the best record in the East. Doesn't take away from his earlier years with us, but he'll never get his number retired, no way. I'd rather the 15 be retired for John Maclean (joke of a coaching stint aside) than Langenbrunner.

No they don't. Both played less than 600 games here. Besides, what did they accomplish? Both had one deep playoff run, and nothing else.

If guys like Muller, MacLean, and Rafalski don't get their number retired then Parise and Langenbrunner aren't even in the conversation.

If your criteria for captain is "guy whose jersey will be retired," that's so off base from reality.

Love the choice. Lets Kovy have less pressure, and it seems as though the work ethic of Sal will really influence the younger players. Thats the kind of guy you want leading your team.

Everyone forgot to give credit to Rich Cherry who said "All signs point to Salvador" a couple of days ago.

Maybe it's because I skimmed this thread but did I just read that you believe that Jamie "Locker room cancer" Langenbrunner and Traitor Zach "Oh please don't ever leave me Ryan <333. I'm forever yours." Parise should be in consideration for their numbers to be retired?! On the New Jersey Devils?!

I will puke if the Devils ever retire Zach's number 9. Saturday can't come soon enough because these non GDTs are ridiculous.

I will puke if the Devils ever retire Zach's number 9.

Traitors who deserve it more then Zach:

Bruce Driver
Johnny Mac
Bobby Holik

Now I don't think I would retire any of them personally. With the exception of John Maclean - and thats if we remember him as a player and not as a coach. However, I'm just saying those three would deserve it more then Zach. Hell I would retire Cam Janssen's number before that asshat.

Why does this "Kings" guy want Parise's number retired? Why not Brylin? There is someone that warrant's consideration. Not that modern day Gomez. Sorry for getting a bit off topic but...what Devils fan would even entertain that thought?

Also good for Sal. This wasn't the "obvious" choice but it seems to have been purely locker room related. Seems like he'll be an excellent leader.
