12. Mattias Samuelsson, D
22 years old | 6-foot-4 | 218 pounds | Shoots left
Drafted: No. 32 in 2018
Tier: Projected to play NHL games
Skating: Below NHL average
Puck skills: Below NHL average
Hockey sense: NHL average
Compete: Above NHL average
Analysis: Samuelsson’s pro development has continued to go well. He is a steady, intelligent defenseman with size and grit. He plays hard and skates well for a big man, making it quite difficult for forwards to get by him. The debate on his game has always been his offense/puck-game. He can make a first pass but can he make enough plays to play big minutes? He’s a sure-fire career NHLer to me on a third pair, and if the offense clicks enough he’ll be top four.
