With the deadline looming and the playoffs to be made, the Sabres made a last minute deal with long time trading partner, the Carolina Hurricanes. Looking to boost an ailing team since the departure of D-man Sergei Zubov (amongst others) Buffalo went out and acquired all-star D-man and former Calder trophy winner Bryan Berard. joining berard from Carolina is winger Ivan Novoseltsev. In exchange, the Sabres had to part ways with their 1st round pick in the upcoming draft, and bruising defenseman Scott Ferguson.

"We had an opportunity to add a guy that we felt was going to be a tremendous help for us now, and in the future." GM Joshua Pitt said. "guys of his skill are hard to find, and harder to acquire, so we were very glad to pick him up."

It is uncertain as to who will partner Berard for the rest fo the season, but with Tarnstrom and Bergeron also in tow, the Sabres PP should be deadly down the stratch. Lack of enough true defensemen may be a concern, but at least the fans will be happy while watching an exciting brand of hockey.

That's all...for now
