Remember, votes go in before playoffs start. Also, Burns hasn't won before even though that supposedly doesn't factor in.

Yeah Burns was a shoe in at the 3/4 mark but he went cold for like 15 games while Karlsson kept up his pace.

The real winner should be Hedman. Almost at Karlsson's level offensively, better defensively. Not being on a playoff team and not playing in a Canadian market hurts him there.

They are playing that up in the article. Here is the summery the OC Register had on his interview.

Kesler said this surgery is far different from one in the summer of 2011, when he had a labral tear in his left hip repaired. That was done in August and he came back too soon to minimize the number of games missed, which he doesn’t plan to do this time around. If it takes four months or five, so be it.

Some hack actually gave a 1st place vote for the Selke to McDavid.

It's really time to stop letting writers decide these things. A few writers gave Karlsson 4th and 5th place votes for the Norris, too. Very embarrassing for the league.

Toronto or Montreal media no doubt gave Karlsson those. Sid also got two first place votes for Selke. I know he's improved a lot defensively but that's just ridiculous he's still only barely above average.

Oh the Pitt media is horrible, amazing that Schultz came in 10th for norris voting.

Kesler out for a few months could be the best news in a while. Not having to play the full 82 games could finally allow him to enter POs in something resembling full game shape. You just gotta hope Randy won't drive Getz to the ground in his absence.

He will. Randy has the guys he likes and he drives them into the ground doesn't matter if it's preseason or post season. Been that way every where he's been.

Kes' shifts per game didn't change by a significant amount this year over last. Getz saw his time increase by less than a minute. This narrative is a bit overdone.

Kesler
'14-15 19:30 TOI/GP(21st), 24.2 Shifts (50th)
'15-16 19:31 TOI/GP(24th), 27 Shifts/GP (4th)
'16-17 21:18 TOI/GP(3rd), 27.5 Shifts/GP (1st)

Getzlaf
'14-15 20:05 TOI/GP(7th), 23.5 Shifts (73rd)
'15-16 19:30 TOI/GP(25th), 24.5 Shifts/GP (33rd)
'16-17 21:04 TOI/GP(5th), 26.7 Shifts/GP (4th)

They're both up significantly in minutes, Getzlaf is up 1:34 and Kesler 1:47. That's an extra 7-8 games worth of play over the course of the season, in a season where they had extra games from that World Cup stupidity, and a compressed schedule from the bye week stupidity.

Someone did the math and was saying 1 voter left Karlsson off the ballot entirely. :help:

Exactly, this is the reason why the narrative is overdone. World Cup, compressed schedules. They played a bit more, but not an unheard of amount. Good players play lots, that's what they're for. And Getz responded with his best season and post season in years.

Wait what? Having had your idea completely disproven you're now saying that's what you meant all along?

Who cares? Getzlaf was driven insanely in the playoffs having more ice time than most teams leading defender.... BUT

He scored 19 points in 17 games and consistently dominated almost every game he was on the ice.

So honestly does it matter at this point? Last season under bruce he went 5pts in 7 games for a 1st round elimination.

I'll take this version of Getzlaf. He looks fine to me regardless of the ice time he plays

And then Getzlaf fell flat on his face in games 5 and 6 where he should have been in matchup heaven. Kesler too. They were completely gassed.

A minute and a half hike for two players approaching their mid-30s is almost unheard of. Especially for two physical players like Getzlaf and Kesler.
