Kesler sure looks like Morrison in that pic....

as far as the comparisons go, it's really hard to peg down Kesler... Ricci, Brind'Amor, Primeau have been mentioned... one thing Kesler has these guys don't is flat out speed... Kesler is fast... looks like Marchant out there skating sometimes... but guys like Marchant don't have the size he does.

and all those guys really developed later in their careers.. IMO the biggest reason being that players like that - and they are all hugely valuable to their teams, bring one special asset that really defines their game - CHARACTER. and it's usally things like character and leadership that don't really shine - or really help carry their team, until these players get more experience in the game.

I think the same will happen with Kesler... he'll play as a decent 3rd liner for several years... for the next 5-7 years he'll probably be a decent 3rd line player, that many people will feel was an "okay" pick in the draft, until he takes that next level - likely to come in a post season run.

It's happened with pretty much all these previous star 3rd liners... we saw it with Peca in his run with Buffalo... Marchant in his playoff series against Dallas... Ricci in Colorado, Primeau in Philly... Madden in his playoff runs... all these guys for the most part did it in their mid to late 20s, or sometimes even early 30s, when they have gained that experience.

I think we will see the same thing with Kesler... he has a lot of good tools - speed being at the top of the list, hard work, work ethic, team player, defensively responsibly etc, but right now he's a 3rd liner that needs to grow and experience.

he's a Chubarov right now... but like many of today's star 3rd liners, he will have his day when he steps into that group IMO... just won't happen for several years, like it has with the above mentioned.

So much better that he's being outscored by Kesler this year and isn't nearly as complete a player.
Stajan was pretty disapointed to have to go to the AHL. He admitted that he started the year with his head up his but. Kesler and Stajan are not a good comparision. Someone mentioned a defencive specialist with good offensive upside.
The difference is Bob Gainey to Jurri Kurri. Gainey was a defencive speciallist with good ofensive upside. Kurri offensive specialist that was very underrated defencively. Gainey>Kesler Kurri>Stajan.

If Kesler becomes anything like Keith Primeau now-a-days, he deserves to easily be in the top 20 prospects.

He's not quite that good. Primeau may have only scored 30-some points in the regular season, but he was one of the top players in the playoffs in the league, nevermind on his team. Kesler could not, and will not ever do what Primeau was able to do in the playoffs last season.

That said, Messenger, while I love our arguements (this one included), I'm quite confident after watching Kesler play that you either have not seen him play much yourself, or have an idea in your head about what kind of player he is, and in reality he isn't that in the least. Saying he won't ever be a very physical player to me gives off the notion that you really don't have a leg to stand on in this one.

But, as Mr. Miller might say, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. (Points to anyone who quotes me and says, 'You are wrong!')

I just got a chance to watch him in back to back games against the St. Johns Leafs on Wed & Friday and Kesler did very little of anything ... He spends most his time as a checker and shut down guy against the other teams top line ..and other than being on the ice while Lee Goran ping pong shot went in the net ..he would have been - 3 on the night ... Never get 1st PP time and only the end of the last 30 sec's on the 2nd unit .. Really did nothing out there at all that made him stand out as a top prospect .. and Since I have a dish .. I have Kesler plenty including all his NHL games because like you I live out west and get to see all the Nuck games.. and all Moose verses St. Johns games and when Kesler Moose is on Rogers Sportsnet ..

So I will file your lofty Kesler praise right up there with your Mojzis high praise that you were so accurate on last year .. If you watched those games Mojzis did NOTHING .. in fact rookie Dman Kevin Bieksa is a far better player already, Koltsov is highly entertaining to watch but a huge defensive liability and Baumgartner is a rock on the Moose defense .. So you boy Mojzis is way down the depth chart in Manitoba already ..

We will see if your Kesler praise is just as accurate .... FYI in reviewing Mckeens last seasons Top 100 prospects released Oct 2003 .... Kesler failed to make their list ..so apparently they are not very high on him either.. So that "really don't have a leg to stand on in this one" comment seems to be a bit off .. in light of that ..NO?? and perhaps your Canuck Rose coloured Glasses are clouding your perception once again ..

I guess I'm wrong. You win Messenger.

There is no right or wrong here.

That is the mistake you are **always ** making in thinking there is one .. including making statements that you believe are facts based on projections, however you will have no definitive way to collaborate those statements until the present becomes the past .. and we can use hindsight to determine what really was ...

Case in point : "Kesler could not, and will not ever do what Primeau was able to do in the playoffs last season." ..... Now review Primeau's prior history and tell me if even Primeau himself thought it was even possible and he was capable of that performance and find the zone like he did .. until it happened of course ..

Also my perception and definition of what a physical player is, apparently is vastly different than yours ... So clearly since we don't agree on the meaning, we will forever disagree ..

This is prospect evaluation .. No exact science here ..

I am just basing my opinon on seeing him, and that due to his current play and Hockey History I can understand why he is not in any TOP 50 Report TODAY.. but I think he will be a contributing and important player to the Nucks some day but it will be his Defensive side that gains him the most respect .... IMO

I gave you my detailed viewpoint .. in an earlier post ..
