Hey gang, Avalanche fan wondering what the Devil's fans take was after all on Ryan Graves after two seasons? I searched your threads trying to find something that would fill me in but couldn't find much of anything and your initial signing thread was locked and hadn't been touched since July 2021.

Full disclosure, I hated Graves and was really glad he was moved from Colorado.

Was really good for the majority of the regular season for us and we all liked him. Even with that good stretch on what was our best pair all season.

Regardless we knew we couldnt afford his contract and knew he was leaving anyway as a UFA. He then had a horrific playoffs which further convinced us he was gone. The deal he got from PIT was awful.

Long story short, If he was cheap Id love to have him back. He was really good with Marino as a shut down pair but the amount he is making, I wouldnt touch with a 10 foot pole

It’s less the amount and more the term.

If he would have taken a 2 year deal with his cap hit, I think he’d have been a good fit. But, this was his opportunity to get a long term deal, so no reason for him to have done that.

He filled a role and did it well enough. That role was not worth six years when we had Bahl in the wings and roster spots we had to give to Nemec, Hughes and potentially Casey down the road. Also, it was likely he wouldn't continue to produce as well into his 30s as his body wears down from a physical game.

I would have taken him back this year on a short term contract but nothing more than 2 years.

He was pretty much a stop gap to beef up the defense.

I was adamant the entire time that we weren't re-signing him, but many were already pondering his next contract by his first year with us. Some were talking him up like he was a lock to be re-signed/ a long term piece here, just because we had just traded for the guy. By late in the season I think most came to terms with him not being back, if not just due to him being a luxury we couldn't afford.

I was calling him the entire time Fitzgerald's defenseman version of Marcus Johansson. A late 20s player we acquired with 2 remaining years on his deal before UFA, who would help now and walk 2 years later or be shipped off at the deadline before it.

He was fine here for those 2 years. He served his purpose. That purpose was never to be a mainstay on the roster for 5 years.

He was largely carried by his partners and would shoot like he thought he was Kovalchuck, but he was a solid enough #4 and ate a lot of minutes for a great team last year.

But seriously for the love of God you don't have to rip it every time you touch the puck in the offensive zone.

Liked him during his time here. HATED how he didn't use his body. Pretty forgettable over all but a good player while he was here minus the playoffs.

Was my biggest gripe with him by far with Colorado. f***ing black hole. Ryan "MacInnis" Graves.

Don’t really need a thread for a guy who’s long gone. Not sure why an Avs fan feels compelled to start a thread on a Devils board almost a ‘year’ after he left here, might as well just ask in the team thread if you dug up a bone of curiosity.
